Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Associate Dean of Administration, Operations, and Services (AOS) is a member of the Administrative Leadership Team. The Senior Associate Dean is one of the principal administrative officers in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and is responsible for the effective management and coordination of supporting physical and logistical operations, administration, and services necessary for the COM to deliver the highest quality of medical education. This position holds direct responsibility for ensuring that the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs have access to the essential resources required to develop and deliver a curriculum that not only meets but also exceeds the accreditation standards set by COCA and the expectations of the medical profession. This is crucial for training and graduating Osteopathic Physicians who will secure placements in graduate medical education programs and support the overall strategic objectives of the COM. The Senior Associate Dean of AOS will oversee the COMโ€™s dedicated or allocated resources in the areas such as Finance, Financial Aid, Information Technology, Registrar services, Admissions, Student Affairs, Accreditation and Professional Development, Marketing, Communications, Safety, Physical/Mental/Spiritual care, and Alumni Affairs. The Senior Associate Dean of AOS will provide for operational assistance and coordination of COM facilities to meet the needs of the faculty, staff, students and curriculum. The Senior Associate Dean of AOS will serve as a professional liaison with the COMโ€™s students, faculty, staff and the public, ensuring that administrative, operational, and service needs are met effectively and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an active and consistent commitment to the mission of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). Develops, implements, and evaluates both an annual operational and a long-term strategic plan for effective support for the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Assists with Enrollment Management initiatives of the COM and University as applicable.

  • Participates as appropriate in supporting the expectations of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) standards and those of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Works with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and the chairs of the Osteopathic Neuro Musculoskeletal Medicine, Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Sciences, to define future needs and improve on current support systems.
  • Principal administrator for operational management of the division through interviewing, selecting, training, and evaluating faculty and staff to promote quality instruction, satisfaction, and development.
  • Responsible for the preparation and administration of the division operational/capital budgets.
  • Oversees the section of the Administration, Operations, and Services division that assures compliance with external requirements, including but not limited to SACS/COC, COCA, ACGME, and other professional accrediting agencies.
  • Engages in teaching, practice, and/or research as compatible with COM needs and individual scholarship goals as appropriate.
  • Performs other accountabilities as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience

Earned Doctorate degree from an accredited institution with experience in Administration, Leadership, Higher Ed, or related field. (e.g. DO, MD, PhD, EdD)

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Demonstrate time management skills and organizational skills.

Ability to problem-solve.

Knowledge of University and College Policy and Procedures.

Three (3) yearsโ€™ experience in a similar position.

Ability to develop, manage, promote, and evaluate support staff.

Expertise in negotiation.

Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.

Ability to work as a group leader and group member, team player.

Expertise in writing and reviewing Policies and Procedures.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Current licensure/certification, board certification registration or license to practice in the State of Tennessee as appropriate to professional practice areas.

Desired Qualifications
