Job description

The Senior Applications Systems Analyst at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a critical role in advancing enterprise development and integration efforts within the Enterprise Dev & Integration department. The Senior Applications Systems Analyst provides technical and functional expertise in developing and supporting secure, web-based data collection, storage, integration, and reporting systems while also mentoring team members and contributing to complex system design and implementation. The Senior Applications Systems Analyst is essential in shaping system scope, guiding analysis, and ensuring high-quality delivery across projects.
The Senior Applications Systems Analyst contributes to mission-critical systems that support clinical, research, and operational excellence, working in a collaborative environment that values innovation, technical leadership, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings a strong educational foundation in computer science or data science, along with demonstrated experience in software development, relational databases, and Python. This individual is experienced in enterprise systems, thrives in analytical and design-driven environments, and is capable of mentoring others while contributing to both technical execution and strategic direction.
Minimum $106,500 - Midpoint $133,000 - Maximum $159,500
Work Location: 100% remote within Texas, with onsite presence in the medical center a few times per month. Prefer a local candidate.

Responsibilities
Application & Systems Development and Support
• Write and test code using C#, Microsoft .NET, JavaScript, and HTML5
• Develop and support secure web-based applications for data collection, storage, and reporting
• Work with Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases to maintain and enhance system performance
• Provide ongoing technical support to customers and stakeholders
• Participate in assigned development and integration projects
Analysis & System Design
• Conduct project analysis to define system scope and objectives
• Collaborate with project resources to gather and document requirements
• Design and modify complex information systems aligned to organizational needs
• Perform research and analysis to support system improvements and innovation
Documentation
• Document code to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer
• Develop technical and functional documentation for systems
• Create user guides and supporting materials for end users
Mentoring & Leadership
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members
• Share expertise in development tools and best practices
• Support team development through knowledge sharing and collaboration
• May serve as a product owner when assigned

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Data Science degree.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 5 years Experience in epic software, domain, analysis, design, project management, or programming.
  • May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
  • Preferred: At least 5 years of software development experience, 3 years relational database experience, 3 years of Python experience.
