The Opto Semiconductors business within ams OSRAM offers high-performance opto semiconductor components and in-depth support for state-of-the-art system solutions based on innovative semiconductor optical sources. The Business Unit can look back on almost fifty years of production and development expertise.
As part of a global Team, Application Engineering Team is responsible for designing our components in to leading solutions within the illumination, visualization, and sensing applications. This position is within the Illumination team. Application Engineers are also responsible for acting as the technical liaison between our customers and R&D/PD team to stay on top new technologies to maintain our global leadership within the industry.
Your new responsibilities:
  • Create a deep technical system understanding by investigating into all relevant system approaches to figure out benefits and drawbacks of the different system solutions
  • Provide support in all aspects, electrical, thermal, and optical, of a complete system to our customers and other internal customer facing teams
  • Provide application support to ams OSRAM's existing customers and cultivate new relationships with potential new customers and partners by developing design proposals, hardware mock-ups, and any technical material.
  • Identify and develop innovative applications for ams Osram's products. Extract and communicate key technical requirements for new product ideas from the customers and market, and work closely with the Product management and R&D/ Product Development team on the new product designs
  • Develop application-level documentations including design guidelines, reference designs, applications notes & design tools
  • Collaborate with marketing and Sales to develop & execute product and application solution promotion plans, provide technical product and application training&
  • Promote ams OSRAM LED technologies through industry technical committees, technical conferences, and events & tradeshows

What we look for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, Optoelectronics, or Physics
  • 5+ years of experience in developing electronics systems or applications, preferably LED /Laser/Sensor-based systems, practical experience with product, module and/or system evaluations
  • Strong understanding of basic semiconductor devices and their characteristics
  • Understanding of thermal management concepts and photometry of optoelectronics devices is considered to be a definite asset
  • Experience with customer interfacing, presenting at conferences, and technical writing
  • Programming/ Microcontroller development experience will be a PLUS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-dependent working style
  • Ability to travel (approximately 20-30%)
