The Greensboro Science Center (GSC) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Animal Care Specialist within our Terrestrial Department. The chosen candidate could be brought in at an Advanced or Senior Animal Care Specialist level depending on experience.  This full-time position will report directly to and be supervised by our Curatorial team.  The Greensboro Science Center is a 68,000 square-foot AZA and AAM accredited science museum that includes our 33,000 square-foot aquarium and a 22-acre zoological park.

This Animal Care Specialist position will be over our Sumatran tigers.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: developing and implementing general husbandry protocols (diets, feeding techniques, cleaning, preventative health, operant conditioning, enrichment, etc), exhibit design and remodeling, supervision of students/interns, and public education/interaction. All keepers are also expected to assist others in the shared responsibilities pertaining to common use areas.  Skills associated with this position include strong observation skills, creative thinking, adaptability, and ability to communicate effectively, as well as a comfortable working knowledge of training.  We also appreciate a strong work ethic and initiative to grow within this career. Staff also have the opportunity to join our step program which supports career development and recognizes increased skills and responsibilities.

GSC is currently in a phase of rapid growth, with construction in progress on our newest addition: a state-of-the-art Biodome. This immersive space will feature a free-flighted aviary, clouded leopards, and a variety of primates and reptiles, offering guests an unforgettable experience and expanding our capacity for education, conservation, and research. As we grow, new opportunities for career advancement and team involvement will continue to emerge. Opportunities for future growth within our team will be available. Greensboro North Carolina is home to 6 major universities and is close to the mountains and the beach. We have big city amenities with a small town feel  and an affordable cost of living.  It is a great opportunity to become part of a dynamic team!  GSC also offers staff the opportunity to support both local and international conservation projects in the field through our yearly conservation and research grant program.  Come be a part of this amazing team!

Animal Care Specialists may work outdoors in diverse weather environments, on varied terrain, and must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.  Candidates should expect to work a 40-hour work week including weekends and holidays.
