Job description

Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Designer to lead process design and material handling initiatives of developing next generation, ultra fast last mile fulfillment (FC) building designs. Are you an innovative leader that wants to design the next generation of world-class FC, delivery and logistics systems across the globe? Do you want a high level of ownership in solving complex problems? Does the challenge of designing systems/buildings that leverage ground breaking automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and robotics appeal to you? If so, we have the job for you!
We're looking to add high-impact engineers to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. Your projects will be a variety of delivery station concepts and template-based design solutions that will enhance the effectiveness of Amazon's last mile network. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.
Ability to travel 40% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal Processes & Material Handling design solutions for a through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations for a modern commercial operation, operating continuously 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to meet customer needs.
• Collaboration with internal teams, external vendors and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in a short period of time.
• Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
• Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits and building designs
• Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.
• Ability to travel up to 40% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.
A day in the life
• Conduct detailed design reviews with vendors to develop the designs of complex and optimal storage and processing solutions.
• Deep dive into CAD models to develop best in class solution from the perspective of operations, maintenance, safety and reliability.
• Visit vendor facilities to conduct proof-of-concept and Factor Acceptance Tests of designed equipments.
• Visit Amazon FCs to conduct tests on equipment and collect data and drive continuous improvement through data-drive decisions
• Carry out continuous improvement pilots on the existing MHE network and make changes to improve the customer experience
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and leaders through business reviews and white papers

The Amazon Logistics (AMZL) Central Engineering organization, designs, pilots and deploys Automation technologies within AMZL network. The team owns the full life-cycle of the automation technologies from concept to pilot to full scale deployment and continuous improvement post deployment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or 2+ years of Amazon RME (Reliability Maintenance Engineering) experience
- 5+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience
- 5+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience
- Experience and strong technical background in relevant fields of automated or non-automated material handling equipment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field
- Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
