Job description

Overview

The Production Leader will be responsible for coordinating the production activities for materials and manufacturing product in accordance with the corporate Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale and Environmental (SQDCME) metrics. He/she performs daily tasks under the general operational support of the Operation Value Stream Functional Leader, provides guidance, support and succession planning for the Production Team Leader and provides leadership and direction for the development, implementation, performance and continuous improvement of Lean Processes.

A high level of initiative and independent judgment is required. Duties include but are not limited to:

· Ensure (SQDCME) objective compliance

· Promote adherence and compliance with the terms of the Local Agreements.

· Update teams on related operational information

· Provide coaching and support to Team leaders and Associates in a participative manner and work closely with Leaders to resolve issues

· Develop, train, advise and guide Team Leaders and Associates

· Administer organizational policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership

· Develop and train Team Leaders to take on new roles and responsibilities through succession planning initiatives

· Demonstrate the character and conduct outlined in the corporate mission and values

· Attend required meetings as necessary or ensure that a knowledgeable and prepared representative is presented

· Serve as the lead representative of production department for cross-functional activities

· Ensure that Union Associates are properly developed and trained

· Demonstrate the ability to delegate tasks when appropriate and to do follow-up

· Serve as the lead representative of the Operation Value Stream Leader to external and internal customers and suppliers

· To be an inspiration for all employees at DCP and be a role-model as defined in the DCP Path

Communications Verbal and Written

  • Ability to communicate verbally and written disciplines when required for all levels of the organization
  • Ability to document SQDCME incidents, violations and/or non-conformances in an accurate and timely manner
  • Must be able to communicate organizational and department performance as reported on SQDCME and Warranty board
  • Facilitate morning start-up and end-of-shift meetings

Management

  • Manage production schedule adherences and multiple departments or areas
  • Manage production downtime, account for and report data in a timely manner
  • Must be able to ensure containment implementation of safety and quality concerns
  • Ensure timely responses to FCPA, CAL, Process and Torque Monitor concerns to prevent repeat reoccurrences
  • Manage the teaching and implementation of enterprise wide Lean principles to assist DCP associates in becoming World Champions
  • Manage departmental operating expenses

Planning

  • Ensure that manpower is allocated properly to provide for the best utilization of Human Capital
  • Champion the implementation of new production equipment or processes
  • Assist Operation Value Stream Leader in forecasting and controlling budget expenditures

Administration

  • Ensure that attendance and tardiness concerns are tracked, recorded and addressed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that production workers hours are recorded and paid properly
  • Ensure compliance to human resources, plant safety and housekeeping policies

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong ability to work cooperatively with management and union represented employees
  • High level of analytical and/or problem solving skills required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Management, General Supervisor or Senior Advisor experience required
  • Five or more years’ experience of manufacturing and/or assembly processes required
  • Two to five years’ experience of Quality Assurance and/or ISO/QS-9000 required
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling and/or other work flow management systems
  • Advanced understanding of basic technology in multiple areas
  • Cross-functional experience in Engineering, Quality, Materials or Production is a plus
  • Specialized training or a college degree in business, management, manufacturing, operations or a technical discipline is highly preferred
  • Ability to understanding Lean principles in all its aspects, and has demonstrated the ability to develop and successfully implement Lean Manufacturing concepts
