Position Summary

The Senior Actuarial Analyst is responsible for conducting and executing actuarial reserving analyses for various Property & Casualty lines of business. This role plays a vital part in evaluating loss and LAE reserves, supporting financial reporting, and collaborating with Finance, Claims, Underwriting, and ERM. The position requires solid technical reserving expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to effectively communicate complex results to management.

Key Responsibilities

Reserving & Analysis

  • Perform quarterly and annual loss and LAE reserve analyses for assigned P&C lines of business using actuarial best practices.
  • Develop and prepare recommendations for carried reserves, including detailed rationale for management and audit review.
  • Independently analyze loss development patterns, trends, tail factors, and large loss activity.
  • Identify emerging issues and proactively explain reserve movements, variability, and key drivers.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses on specific segments, coverages, and accident years as needed.

Financial Reporting & Governance

  • Support statutory, GAAP, and management reporting processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive actuarial exhibits, documentation, and reserve memos.
  • Partner with Finance on close processes, variance analysis, and earnings commentary.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, SOX documentation, and governance standards.

Collaboration & Business Support

  • Work closely with Claims to understand operational drivers of loss emergence and incorporate findings into analyses.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting and Pricing to provide data-driven feedback on loss experience and profitability.
  • Support reinsurance reserving, commutations, and ceded analyses.
  • Support transformation and process improvement efforts, including automating quarterly roll forwards.

Leadership & Development

  • Contribute to the enhancement of reserving methodologies, tools, and automation.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource and subject matter expert on assigned lines of business.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of actuarial experience, with a dedicated focus on P&C reserving.
  • Active pursuit of Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) credentials (e.g., 4+ exams passed, nearing ACAS designation).
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. P&C reserving techniques and standard actuarial methodologies. Advanced proficiency in Excel; working knowledge of actuarial software (e.g., ResQ, Arius, SAS, R, or similar).
  • Programming, data querying, or automation experience (e.g., SQL, R, Python, VBA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting statutory and GAAP reporting.
  • Prior exposure to reinsurance structures and ceded reserving.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external auditors.

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
