Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description
The Machine Operator sets up and operates manufacturing equipment, supports assembly and logistics activities, and helps ensure that products meet quality and safety standards. This role involves operating industrial machinery and forklifts, performing routine quality inspections, using computer systems for production and logistics, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work area in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate manufacturing equipment in accordance with all relevant work instructions, quality plans, and internal policies.
- Operate forklifts and other industrial vehicles in line with OSHA safety guidelines and internal procedures.
- Perform quality inspections on incoming materials, in-process manufacturing, and finished goods according to established work instructions and quality plans.
- Interact with computer systems to support production tracking, documentation, and logistics functions.
- Support assembly operations and logistics activities as part of daily manufacturing and warehouse workflows.
- Initiate, maintain, and improve cleanliness and organization in the manufacturing and warehouse areas.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, product quality, productivity, and a positive attitude at all times.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and all levels of the organization.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently and perform physical tasks such as standing for most of the shift, bending, reaching, and lowering as required by the manufacturing process.
- Work flexible hours, including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays, as required by production demands.
- Use basic hand tools and measurement devices during assembly, inspection, and machine operation tasks.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management to support overall plant operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to operate manufacturing machinery or industrial equipment in a production environment.
- Experience with general labor, assembly, and packaging tasks in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other industrial vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and perform extended periods of standing and physical activity.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to operate a computer and navigate Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings of manufactured products.
- Ability to understand and use basic measurement tools such as dial calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to understand and use basic hand tools for assembly and maintenance tasks.
- Willingness to work any required shift, including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and productivity.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to earn and maintain a forklift operatorโs license and any other required industrial vehicle certifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating CNC machines or other automated equipment is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems is a strong plus.
- Experience with quality control processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort using tools such as tape measures, calipers, and other basic mechanical measuring devices.
- Adaptability to work across multiple facets of the plant, including assembly operations and logistics.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
