Job description

WGL - HR Advisor
This role is ideal for an experienced HR Generalist who thrives in employee relations and advisory work and is looking to step into a more business-facing role. You will act as a trusted partner to manager-level leaders, while also supporting senior HR Business Partners on more complex, strategic initiatives.
What You'll Do
  • Provide consultative HR guidance to managers and employees, ensuring alignment with business strategy, organizational priorities, and external market practices
  • Lead the application and continuous improvement of HR policies, programs, and procedures, ensuring they are practical, accessible, and consistently applied across the business
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers on a broad range of employee lifecycle matters, including performance, promotions, leaves, and workplace concerns, enabling confident and consistent decision-making
  • Coach and support managers in handling day-to-day employee relations matters, while appropriately escalating more complex or high-risk situations to HRBPs or Legal
  • Support and, where appropriate, lead performance management and employee relations processes, including disciplinary actions, severance considerations, and exits, with a strong understanding of Canadian employment legislation and common law
  • Partner closely with HRBPs and Centres of Expertise to deliver key initiatives, including organizational changes, workforce planning, and talent strategies, while taking ownership of execution within the client group
  • Provide reporting, insights, and data-driven recommendations to support workforce decisions, identify trends, and improve overall effectiveness
  • Contribute to succession planning, talent reviews, and development initiatives, helping to strengthen leadership capability at the manager level
  • Support the delivery of core HR programs and processes, including onboarding, offboarding, and employee communications, ensuring a seamless and positive employee experience
  • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation, ensuring compliance, data integrity, and operational excellence
  • Promote and enable the use of employee self-service tools and streamlined processes to improve efficiency and manager experience
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition as needed to support hiring processes, including job scoping, headcount validation, and onboarding coordination

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with a strong foundation in employee relations, performance management, and HR advisory
  • Proven ability to partner directly with managers to navigate employee matters, including performance, conduct, and day-to-day HR decision-making
  • Strong judgment and confidence managing sensitive situations, balancing employee experience with business needs
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, complex, or regulated environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to translate HR policies and frameworks into practical, business-relevant guidance
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing, time-sensitive priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with HR Business Partners and Centres of Excellence to support broader HR initiatives
  • Interest and capability to grow into more strategic HR partnership work over time

Why Join WGL
  • In a regulated, operational business, the work is nuanced, fast-moving, and rarely black and white - you'll sharpen your judgment and build real depth in HR faster than in more routine environment
  • You won't operate in a silo - this is a highly connected HR team where Advisors, HRBPs, and COEs work closely together to solve problems and support the business
  • If you're looking to deepen your experience in a complex, purpose-driven environment where your work influences both people and operations, this role offers a unique opportunity
