Join our team! Monroe Ambulance is seeking a full-time overnight Lieutenant (Paramedic license required) to join our growing team of frontline staff.

Why Monroe

• The compensation range for this position is $33.00 - $36.00 hourly, representing our good faith and reasonable estimate of the potential compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skill set.
• Overnight schedule provides a $3.00 shift differential on top of the pay rate listed above.
• Required New York State Paramedic certification

Position Overview  

Lieutenants at Monroe Ambulance play a vital leadership role by combining clinical expertise, operational oversight, and team leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care with compassion and integrity. They are responsible for maintaining excellence in patient care, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, fostering a positive organizational culture, and upholding documentation standards across our team of care providers. Lieutenants provide daily updates to the on-duty Captain, offering a comprehensive overview of shift operations in these key areas while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement. As leaders within the organization, Lieutenants are expected to exemplify the core values of Monroe Ambulance, model professional behavior, and cultivate a positive and supportive work environment for all crews and employees. 

Outlined below are the key categories, roles, and responsibilities that define the Lieutenant position and support Monroe Ambulance's mission of delivering quality, compassionate, and integrity-driven service to the communities we serve: 

Patient Care  

• Remains available to respond to critical calls to assist crews with patient care as needed, providing coaching to front line staff as needed 
• Ensures direct patient care providers are adhering to NYS and regional protocols/care bundles based on nature of illness and injury (injuries) 
• Coordinates restock of supplies and replacement of equipment when necessary 
• Monitors, coordinates, and responds to incidents when additional resources are required 

Safety 

• Conducts themselves with focus on safety for self, patient, teammates and the public 
• Keeps current with drive-cam events, responding in real-time 
• Conducts in-field safety audits to ensure providers are adhering to Monroe's safety protocols, providing real-time feedback/education to providers 
• Investigates any accidents/injuries/incidents that are reported during the shift, submitted to the captain upon completion 

Team 

• Ensures compliance with the SSMP or directs the communications center to deviate as needed and when appropriate 
• Remains visible on the road, available to back up crews on critical incidents, be available to cover crew lunches or end of shift times 
• Conduct rounds with patient care crews on regular basis and deliver on the following responsibilities: 
• Cultivate a culture of engagement, professionalism, and employee recognition 
• Serve as a communication link between senior leadership and field personnel 
• Facilitate the implementation of new policies, procedures, and best practices 
• Support the mental health and wellness of personnel through regular engagement and resource awareness 
• Ensure compliance with uniform, appearance, and professional conduct standards 
• Gather, assess, and communicate employee feedback to improve operations, equipment, and workplace satisfaction 
• Checks in with the communication center at the start of shift to communicate daily/weekly plans; ensures there is consistent communication throughout shifts with crews in the field 
• Proactively manages the experience of all crews during their shifts, this includes facilitating breaks and lunches with road crews when necessary 
• Monitor and ensure crew accountability for the timely completion of operational responsibilities, patient care obligations, and end-of-shift requirements. 
• Embody, support and reinforce Monroe Ambulance's Code of Conduct to encourage adoption by providers  
• Collaborates with fellow on-duty lieutenants to assign tasks for the shift, ensuring no duplication of efforts 

Documentation 

• Keeps the schedule updated throughout the day with changes due staffing changes 
• Keeps the vehicle lineup and the vehicle status board updated 
• Ensures 100% check sheet compliance by on duty crews 
• Ensures that trucks are assigned to every unit on the schedule and makes updates as needed 
• Review list of incomplete charts at start of shift and follow up accordingly with personnel to ensure chart completion 
• Ensures completion of all requested incident reports, vehicle problem reports, and CPS reports are completely by employees during the shift 
• Completes and submits in-field safety audit forms for each employee audited by the end of their shift 
• Completes and submits employee interaction forms for each employee audited by the end of their shift 
• Completes and submit all investigation reports for all incidents during their shift 

Additional Responsibilities 

• Conduct routine check-ins with employees to promote engagement, support professional development, identify challenges, and enhance team cohesion 
• Represent the company, internally and externally, in a professional manner always 
• Promote a culture of teamwork by demonstrating flexibility and readiness to undertake additional tasks that may be required 
• Lieutenants are expected to perform and complete any other company related duties that may be assigned by leadership, to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
   

Requirements 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities 
• Current New York State Paramedic Certification 
• Field Training Officer (FTO) experience 
• Familiarity with local, regional, state, and federal regulations governing prehospital EMS 
• High school diploma or GED equivalent 
• Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700 upon appointment 
• Completion of ICS 300 and 400 within the first year of appointment

• Employees must be able to frequently lift and move up to 125 pounds independently and up to 250 pounds with assistance.
