Position Overview:

The Associate Test Automation Engineer will design, develop, execute, and maintain automated tests for enterprise software applications. This role requires at least three years of experience in software test automation, with a strong focus on Selenium and Java.

The engineer will support test planning, requirements analysis, functional and regression testing, defect management, test-result reporting, and release validation. The role will work closely with developers, business analysts, senior test engineers, and other stakeholders to identify issues early and support delivery of high-quality software solutions.

The position supports testing in a Navy on-premises environment that includes development, QAE, staging, and authorized production-validation environments. Preferred experience includes JBoss, Oracle, Java/J2EE, Red Hat Linux, GWT, Checkmarx, and Splunk.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and acceptance criteria to identify test conditions, risks, automation opportunities, and coverage gaps.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain Selenium WebDriver and Java automation for functional, smoke, regression, integration, and system testing.
  • Create and maintain test plans, test cases, test scripts, reusable automation components, test data, logs, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain traceability among requirements, test cases, automated scripts, test results, defects, and release documentation.
  • Execute testing across development, QAE, and staging environments, including authorized production smoke or validation testing.
  • Support API, performance, and security testing activities as assigned.
  • Support existing CI/CD test integrations, including automated test execution, result reporting, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Review test failures and distinguish application defects from environment, configuration, data, or automation issues.
  • Document, reproduce, track, prioritize, and verify software defects using Jira, including appropriate test evidence and retest results.
  • Use GitHub to maintain and collaborate on test automation assets.
  • Analyze test results and communicate test status, quality risks, unresolved defects, and release-readiness recommendations.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, senior test engineers, and stakeholders throughout Agile planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, defect triage, and release activities.
  • Follow applicable DoD, Navy, organizational quality-assurance, configuration-management, security, and change-control procedures.

Qualifications

  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance, US Citizenship is required.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in software quality assurance or test automation.
  • Certifications: Active CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140-compliant certification or the ability to attain it within the first six months.
  • Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and executing automated functional and regression tests using Selenium WebDriver and Java.
  • Knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Experience with Jira for test management and defect tracking.
  • Familiarity with JUnit or TestNG, Maven or Gradle, and Jenkins or comparable CI/CD tools used to support automated testing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Web Toolkit (GWT).
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification.
  • Experience with JBoss application server and Oracle databases.
  • Experience with performance testing or security testing tools.
