Key Accountabilities:
Own category assortment and performance:
  • Define category strategy, tactical and financial plan of category; own P&L
  • Make assortment decisions to achieve category roles and financial targets
  • Continually monitor and assess performance versus budgeted objectives
  • Manage Category Assistant

Lead interactions with stakeholders, monitor activity, and make final decisions:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendor partners; negotiate trade terms
  • Develop category promo guidelines; planning & monitoring
  • Sign-off that articles have been created correctly
  • Strategic partnerships and innovation
  • Ensure right stock levels exist in the right places - with Replenishment
  • Review pricing strategy and impact of pricing decisions - with Pricing
  • Store performance and adherence - with Operations

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Expert knowledge of the Grocery Foods category, including customer preferences.Grocery Food experience is required.
  • Bachelors degree in business or equivalent from a 4 year college or Three year related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years retail experience in a supervisory role, retail management and/or previous purchasing experience preferred
  • Strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, proven people skills
  • Strong negotiation skills, cooperative attitude towards suppliers
  • Retail, purchasing / supplier management experience

Working Conditions:
  • Fast paced office environment
  • Primarily computer work; able to sit or stand in one place for long periods of time
  • Multiple phone calls and meetings on a daily/weekly basis
  • Open area office environment
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time.
