Job description

This position is responsible for performing various tasks involved with operating a seed production facility including field production, harvest, seed processing, warehousing and other related activities. Assigned responsibilities will vary through the year based on seasonal needs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain Beck's equipment as directed by the Production Location Manager or other designated persons.
  • Operate processing equipment in the plant.
  • Operate the seed treater in the plant.
  • Operate the bagging line.
  • Assist in the unloading of inbound shipments, orderly stacking of product along with picking and staging outbound shipments.
  • Assist with production field isolation and planting duties.
  • Assist with field inspections during pollination season.
  • Work in the husking, sorting, drying, and shelling operations when needed.
  • Assist with seed box washing activities.
  • Perform general farm duties and general seed duties as needed.
  • Assist in repairs and maintenance of all Beck's equipment as assigned.
  • Report ongoing status of operations to the Processing Plant Manager.
  • Aid in implementing and following quality control standards in all seed production and processing activities.
  • Report to the Processing Plant Manager on supply needs to continue operation of the plant.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations performed in assigned projects. This also applies to repairs and maintenance of equipment.
  • Operate commercial motor vehicles as directed by the Production Location Manager or its designee, where applicable.
  • Perform other production, processing, dock, and delivery functions as may be required by the Production Location Manager.

Job Requirements

Education and training:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck's automobile insurance policy preferred.

Technical knowledge:

  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations.
  • CDL or Chauffer license or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and skills of farming.

Travel and hours of work:

  • Overnight travel may be required based on project needs at Beck's regional locations and may vary in duration of time.

Physical demands:

  • May be required to lift up to 70 pounds unassisted.
  • May be required to pass respiratory clearance evaluation.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical examination and obtain Medical Examiner's Certificate may be required.

Experience:

  • Farming experience preferred.
