What does a security trainer do?

A Security Trainer is responsible for educating employees or security personnel about safety protocols, security procedures, and emergency response strategies. They develop and deliver training programs on topics such as physical security, cybersecurity, threat assessment, and incident response. Security Trainers assess training needs, create instructional materials, and evaluate the effectiveness of their programs to ensure staff are prepared to handle security challenges. Their role is crucial in helping organizations minimize security risks and maintain a safe environment.

How does a security trainer typically collaborate with other departments to ensure effective security awareness across the organization?

A Security Trainer works closely with IT, HR, and management teams to tailor security training programs that address specific risks and compliance requirements within the organization. This collaboration ensures that training materials are relevant and accessible, and helps in identifying department-specific vulnerabilities. Regular meetings and feedback sessions with these departments allow Security Trainers to stay updated on emerging threats and organizational changes, enabling them to update training content accordingly. This cross-functional approach not only strengthens the organization's security posture but also encourages a culture of shared responsibility for security.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a security trainer?

To thrive as a Security Trainer, you need a thorough understanding of physical and digital security protocols, instructional design, and relevant industry standards, typically supported by experience in security operations and certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Familiarity with e-learning platforms, simulation tools, and presentation software is essential for delivering effective training. Strong communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills help engage trainees and adapt content to diverse audiences. These skills ensure that security personnel are well-prepared to identify threats and follow best practices, directly impacting organizational safety and compliance.

Job description

Protect and Serve as a Security Guard at Nirvana

At Nirvana, we're a family owned and operated company dedicated to providing a safe, compliant, and welcoming dispensary experience for every patient and customer. We're looking for a professional and dependable Security Guard to help maintain security and compliance standards while representing our company with professionalism and care. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safety of our staff, customers, and inventory while supporting reception and customer check-in operations at our dispensary.

What You'll Do

As a Security Guard, you'll serve as both a protector and a brand ambassador, ensuring that all guests have a safe, compliant, and positive experience. You'll:

  • Greet and check in patients and customers, verifying identification and eligibility in accordance with state and company regulations.
  • Monitor dispensary premises and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of employees, customers, and property.
  • Maintain oversight of security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access points, and promptly report irregularities.
  • Perform opening and closing security procedures, ensuring the facility remains secure at all times.
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies, or disturbances using de-escalation techniques and company-approved protocols.
  • Build and maintain patient profiles and ensure records are accurate and up to date in the system.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to uphold compliance standards and promote a safe, efficient workflow.
  • Maintain detailed security logs and incident reports to ensure accountability and transparency.
  • Support front-of-house operations by assisting with customer inquiries and ensuring a welcoming environment.
  • Complete the state-required security training program as a condition of employment and maintain certifications as needed.

What We're Looking For We're seeking someone who combines vigilance with professionalism and knows how to balance firm security standards with outstanding customer service. You'll be a great fit if you're:

  • Detail-oriented with strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Calm under pressure and capable of responding quickly to emergency situations.
  • Dependable, professional, and trustworthy in all interactions.
  • Comfortable using security systems and basic computer applications for logging and reporting.
  • Experienced in security, law enforcement, or a related customer-facing field (preferred but not required).

Why Nirvana?

At Nirvana, we're more than a dispensary-we're a community. As a family owned and operated company, we take pride in fostering a workplace that values safety, integrity, and growth. We celebrate individuality and encourage our employees to develop their skills and build long-term careers in the cannabis industry.
