Job description

The Operations Lead oversees and optimizes the day-to-day operations of our project teams, with specialized focus on gates, gate automation, and access control systems within the broader construction environment. This role coordinates all aspects of project management while ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, quality standards, and safety regulations. This role also functions as a field technician completing the installation and servicing of gates, gate automation, security systems, and access control systems. The Operations Lead is accountable for driving client satisfaction by ensuring that all projects are executed in accordance with contract documents and the company's high quality standards for the Memphis region.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead overall construction and systems-installation performance through demonstrated proficiency and project teams
  • Establish, enforce, and maintain operational procedures and policies to ensure all project objectives are met, including scheduling, budget, and quality control
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies to facilitate successful project execution across both general construction and specialized gate/access control scopes
  • Establish, update, and communicate the Master Project Schedule and manage its implementation
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or issues, and implement proactive measures to mitigate delays and ensure milestones are met
  • Coordinate the integration of gate automation and access control installations with concurrent construction activities to avoid sequencing conflicts
  • Oversee the planning, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of swing, slide, barrier, and overhead gate systems, along with their automation components (operators, motors, controllers, safety sensors, and loop detectors)
  • Ensure access control systems, including card readers, keypads, intercoms, telephone entry, biometric devices, and integrated software platforms, are installed, configured, and tested to specification
  • Verify that all gate and access control work complies with relevant safety standards and applicable local codes
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and guide teams through integration with security, surveillance, and building management systems
  • Maintain technical knowledge of evolving access control technologies and recommend solutions that meet client security and operational needs
  • Develop a high-performance team through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring; ensure regular feedback and timely completion of employee performance appraisals
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, establish and deliver a comprehensive training program based on project needs and statutory or local regulations, including manufacturer certifications for gate and access control equipment
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordination among project stakeholders to ensure alignment of objectives and priorities
  • Maintain regular communication, providing updates on project status, progress, and milestones to the management team and stakeholders
  • Build and nurture positive client relationships, addressing needs, concerns, and expectations proactively and professionally
  • Identify opportunities to add value and exceed client expectations, fostering long-term partnerships and repeat business
  • Ensure all construction and systems activities comply with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards, conducting regular inspections and assessments
  • Implement quality control measures and best practices to maintain high standards of workmanship across both construction and access control deliverables
  • Address quality or safety issues promptly, working with project teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence
  • Develop and manage project budgets, track expenses, and forecast financial performance across multiple projects
  • Review project expenditures, change orders, and subcontractor invoices in accordance with established budgetary guidelines
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements while maintaining quality and client satisfaction
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to different work schedule including on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors year-round in a variety of weather elements for 8+ hours a day, 40+ hours a week
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English
  • Other job related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in an operations role within the construction industry, with a minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience with gates, gate automation, and access control systems, including installation, integration, and maintenance
  • Prior experience in project planning and scheduling, managing people, and in-depth working knowledge of building construction
  • Field experience and knowledge of computers and the following software: MS Office, ShareFile, and BlueWave
  • Familiarity with gate and access control safety standards
  • Must present a positive personal image and work effectively as a team member with strong leadership, administrative, and communication skills
  • Must be knowledgeable of OSHA requirements and strong in construction quality assurance
  • Must have the ability to manage and control budgets, change orders, and inventory
  • Must have a history of completing large, complex commercial projects on time and within budget
  • High school diploma or GED required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction related industry preferred
