Part-Time Security Officer

Sandhills Community College seeks applications for a Part-Time Security Officer. This position reports to the Director, Police and Public Safety and is responsible for providing personal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within an assigned area of the College campus to include the Hoke County Center. Provide escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and perform routine security and public safety duties within assigned area. Remain alert to emergencies and provide first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required. Work hours for this position varies. The candidate(s) will be required to work a weekend rotation schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols assigned area on foot or in motor vehicle, as assigned, to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure; open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions and issues campus citations as needed.
  • Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information.
  • Serves as First Responder to all campus emergencies, closely following emergency procedures as described in the "Sandhills Community College First Responder Emergency Plan". Coordinate emergencies through the college switchboard, whenever possible, otherwise call 911 directly. Assist by directing emergency vehicles and providing on-scene assistance as directed by qualified personnel.
  • Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and detain violators, as required, until police arrive.
  • Performs periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or streetlights to ensure proper function; reports malfunctions as required.
  • May provide safe and efficient transportation to college employees and/or visitors, as requested, using an institutional vehicle.
  • Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas to provide public security and assistance.
  • Prepares routine and standardized reports.
  • May provide specialized security in a retail area, requiring specific knowledge of the operating environment.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
