The Role

We're seeking a versatile Senior Integration Engineer to connect our mission-critical software to the systems our defence, public safety, and national security customers depend on. You'll design and build the integrations and data pipelines that move information into and out of our platform, develop custom connectors, and keep data flows reliable, secure, and compliant with stringent operational standards.

Working closely with defence contractors, military personnel, and technical authorities, you'll map each customer's data landscape, architect integration solutions, and build pipelines that ingest, transform, and validate data from diverse and often complex sources. You'll own the integration process end-to-end - setting strategy, catching issues before they impact operations, and keeping designs clearly documented.

This is a full-time position based in Ottawa with up to 30% travel (domestic and international).

Experience

  • Minimum of 7+ years of software development experience, with a strong focus on systems and data integration, preferably in defence or related industry
  • Proven track record of integrating complex software systems and developing production data pipelines
  • Demonstrated experience building integrations against external systems via REST APIs, message queues, and streaming interfaces
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating data pipelines that ingest and transform data from diverse sources
  • Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing technical discovery sessions, including requirements gathering, solution scoping, and value-driven conversations that build customer trust and accelerate adoption

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in creating pipelines for ingesting data from diverse sources (flat files, databases, APIs, message queues, streams)
  • Proficiency in Python and web frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask)
  • Strong knowledge of data and storage technologies such as SQL, Elasticsearch, and S3
  • Experience with workflow management and automation solutions such as Apache Airflow
  • Solid understanding of API design and authentication/authorization mechanisms, and how they apply to secure system-to-system integration
  • Working understanding of TLS, HTTP/2-3, and PKI as they relate to secure data exchange
  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across development teams and with customer stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple integration initiatives simultaneously
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex data and interface issues and drive efficient resolution


Nice to Have...

  • Familiarity with software systems used by defence organizations such as SitaWare HQ, TAK, Esri AllSource, and others
  • Experience with data quality, schema evolution, and data contract management across system boundaries
  • Experience with message brokers and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Redpanda)
  • Familiarity with containerized deployment of integration services (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Prior experience working with or for defence, public safety, law enforcement, and national security organizations


What You'll Do

Integration Strategy and Planning

  • Partner with customers and internal teams to understand data sources, interfaces, and integration requirements, and develop comprehensive integration strategies for the organization
  • Create and maintain detailed integration designs and documentation to ensure successful implementations across all customer environments
  • Document integration approaches based on data sensitivity assessments and regulatory requirements
  • Advise on and implement integration patterns and data pipeline frameworks across the entire platform

Integration Development and Data Pipelines

  • Travel to customer and partner sites to participate in requirements gathering, integration development, testing, and hands-on support
  • Design, build, and test integrations with external systems, including pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and validating data
  • Develop custom connectors and adapters for diverse customer data sources (flat files, databases, APIs, message queues, streams)
  • Streamline integration processes, configurations, and documentation for repeatable, reliable implementations
  • Provide regular status updates on integration progress and data flow health metrics

Data Quality and Security

  • Ensure all integrations meet strict government security and operational standards
  • Implement appropriate processes for data validation, error handling, and recovery within pipelines
  • Diagnose and resolve complex data and interface issues leveraging deep knowledge of APIs, data formats, and integration patterns
  • Champion data quality and integration best practices across all customer engagements

Customer Support and Communication

  • Work directly with stakeholders, including defence contractors and military personnel, to ensure integrations align with operational requirements
  • Participate actively in customer meetings, technical reviews, and integration planning sessions
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on interface specifications, data contracts, and integration requirements
  • Customize integrations to meet unique customer operational needs
  • Communicate integration results and data flow metrics to stakeholders at all levels
