POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to SVP, Corporate Insurance & Risk Management, the Corporate Director Safety & Security (CDSS) at Montage International will oversee the general operations of the Safety & Security Departments. The CDSS acts as a resource for the properties, to assist and support, to provide information on a wide variety of subjects ranging from workplace safety, guest safety, incident prevention, asset protection, physical security, training, global intelligence, international matters, safety and security compliance. This role includes operational management and oversight of issues involving injury prevention, risk and liability assessments, safety and security operations, incident investigations, claims management, event protection, site/building security monitoring, and access control.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops a companywide safety and security global strategy.
  • Portfolio Risk Management: directs safety and security protocols for multiple hotels, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and local laws
  • Oversee the execution of corporate safety and accident prevention programs as well as workplace violence
  • Develop and advise senior managers on safety training programs (i.e. OSHA, associate safety, fire, security).
  • Establish and manage operational goals for Workers' Compensation claim reduction, and General Liability claim reduction. Support the managing of such claims.
  • Review all incident reports from security departments. Ensure reports are completed and investigations are promptly finalized focusing on liability assessments.
  • Ensure proper claim reporting to TPAs / insurance carriers by the security departments.
  • Conduct incident trending analysis. Develop reports. Prepare action plans as the analysis dictates.
  • Establish safety committees and monthly safety training programs.
  • Periodically attend safety committee meetings at all locations. Ensure the completion and filing of meeting minutes, injury statistics, injury follow ups, and monthly safety training.
  • Conduct periodic property health/safety/security/risk assessments. Audit to ensure regulatory stands and compliance.
  • Coaches and mentors' property-level Directors of Security and hotel security teams.
  • Collaborate with the properties and assist with interviewing Security Director candidates.
  • Enhance incident management (Crisis Management plans) and threat assessment programs.
  • Support security leaders with partnering with local authorities and other external agencies.
  • Manage the safety and security departments' policies, procedures and programs (i.e. SOPs), with a focus on their ability to promote the safety and security of Associates, Guests, properties as well as the financial and intellectual assets of the company. Audit and review to ensure compliance.
  • Support the SVP of Corporate Insurance & Risk Management with collecting exposure data from all the locations for insurance renewal purposes.
  • Research technologies and systems to ensure appropriate incident management and response.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for emergencies and leads incident investigations, and conducts briefings / updates of incidents to the Senior Leadership team.
  • Manage operational matters with data driven intelligence to ensure that threats, risks, and losses are identified, evaluated, prioritized, and acted upon in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that all life safety systems (i.e. CCTV, Access Control / Intrusion Alarms Systems, etc.) are maintained and function properly.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors in the creation and implementation of new systems for current property enhancements. Provide input for the development of new locations.
  • Manage the Safety & Security Critical Path for all new projects and assist in managing task force when needed. Regularly evaluate security departments' work quality and efficiency (i.e. report writing, daily activity logs, key controls, investigations, CCTV monitoring, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive relevant work experience in Hospitality Security, Risk Management and Safety and a minimum of 7 years in a department leadership position.
  • Preferred - Certified Lodging Security Director and multi-site experience
  • Certified in OSHA/CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Experience with Crime Prevention and Protection within soft targets
  • CPP (Certified Protection Professional) Certification (or able and willing to obtain)
  • PSP (Physical Security Professional) (or able and willing to obtain)
  • Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management Experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in opening new hotel/resort locations

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to evolve safety and security strategies based on research, data, business direction, and industry trends.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong technical skills, proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Strong professional demeanor using good judgment and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to solve problems and make rational decisions.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, local, and international laws governing civil rights, occupational safety and health, and Innkeeper laws. Must be versed in workers' compensation and civil liability law and process.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor
  • Ability to travel 50%.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Most work tasks are performed indoors. Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required for the rest of the working day. This may include traveling to and from meetings, as well as travelling to properties for on-site assessments and support as required.

The pay scale for the Corporate Director, Safety & Security is $150,00.00 to $175,000.00. The pay scale is the base salary wage range, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, gratuities, and the like, that Montage reasonably expects to pay for the position.
