Job description

Security Officer-PT

Experience required. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board or superintendent may find acceptable.

Reports to: Security Director.

Job goal: To serve the educational process by protecting students and staff members from harm and school-owned property from loss or damage caused by antisocial acts.

Performance responsibilities:

  • Patrols district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  • Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or calls police for assistance, according to emergency action plan.
  • Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and school personnel in event of fire and assists in extinguishing fire.
  • Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; to check cars for parking authorization; to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire hydrants or in driveways; and to check exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
  • Makes written reports of security violations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. In addition to sitting, the employee must frequently squat, stoop and kneel. The employee continuously uses hands to grasp items during the day.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
