Summary of Responsibilities: The Director of Campus Safety and Security is responsible for leading all campus security and public safety operations to maintain a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves developing and implementing safety policies, managing emergency protocols, supporting investigations, and supervising departmental personnel, while embodying the mission and values of Geneva College.
Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
- Leadership & Administration Develops and enforces comprehensive safety, security, and risk management policies. Manages staff scheduling, development, and training. Fosters a culture of mentorship and supports student internship opportunities.
- Emergency Management. Acts as the lead in developing and coordinating emergency response procedures, including active threat, fire safety, and natural disasters. Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
- Campus Operations. Supports 24/7 campus operations, including surveillance, access control systems, and parking enforcement. Participates in security officer rotation and is available “on call” to support after-hours emergencies.
- Investigations and Compliance. Investigates incidents involving criminal activity, violations of student conduct, or safety hazards. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including the Jeanne Clery Act and supports Title IX program.
- Community Relations. Provides student-focused security services, engaging with the campus community to foster a culture of care and safety, aligned with Geneva College’s mission and vision.
- Event Security. Ensures the safety of all campus events, including athletics, chapel services, and public performances.
- Miscellaneous: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Minimum:
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in security, emergency management, military or law enforcement, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Excellent conflict management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with an open enrollment campus, including members from every tongue, tribe, and nation.
- Calm and decisive leadership under stress.
- Ability to patrol campus on foot, navigate stairs, and respond quickly to emergencies in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of Clery Act reporting, First Aid, or FEMA Incident Command Structure.
- Communication: Communicates clearly and collaborates with a wide variety of campus stakeholders.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
- Technology: Administration of door access systems, video surveillance, and emergency communications systems.
- Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
- Preferred:
- Education/Certification: Degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or related field.
- Experience: 10 or more years of experience in security, emergency management, military or law enforcement, with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity within higher education.
- Skill/Abilities: Strong knowledge of Clery Act reporting, First Aid, and FEMA Incident Command Structure.
- Certifications: Emergency Management Certifications (ICS 100, 200, 300, or 400). First Aid/CPR/AED.
