Job description

Description:

Strategic Security Services is hiring a Level II Licensed Security Officer for a desk-based / monitoring position in South Austin (near Ben White Blvd & IH-35).

This is a non-confrontational site. The primary responsibility of this role is to observe, document, and report — not enforce.

This position operates in a hybrid role that includes security presence, camera monitoring, and light front desk support within a supportive housing environment.

Current Available Shifts:

• Monday – Friday: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (8-hour shifts) (40hrs a week)

Shift Structure:

• Overnight shifts (Monday – Friday) are solo coverage
• Weekend and evening shifts will have apartment staff on-site in addition to security

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a consistent on-site presence during assigned shift
• Conduct frequent foot patrols of the property
• Monitor entry and exit activity via camera systems (if access is provided)
• Observe and document incidents and unusual activity
• Complete clear and accurate incident reports (DARs) digitally
• Assist with front desk operations as needed
• Provide Firewatch-style monitoring during assigned hours
• Communicate with dispatch and supervisors when needed

Important Expectations:

• This is strictly an observe and report position
• No enforcement actions are expected
• No confrontation with residents or guests
• All issues are to be documented and reported, then escalated if necessary
• Must maintain a calm, professional, and respectful demeanor at all times

This role is best suited for individuals who are reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a low-confrontation environment.

Requirements:

• Valid Texas Level II Security License
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to conduct frequent walking patrols throughout shift
• Strong communication and report writing skills
• Ability to remain calm in non-confrontational environments
• Ability to observe, document, and report accurately
• Basic computer skills (reports, camera systems)
• Must be comfortable wearing a body camera during shifts (Level II requirement)
• Must be comfortable completing digital reports (DARs) as part of Level II duties
• Must pass a background check

Preferred:

• Prior security, dispatch, or patrol experience
• Experience in residential or supportive housing environments
• Strong de-escalation mindset (not enforcement-focused)
• Experience with camera monitoring systems

Ideal Candidate:

• Professional and dependable
• Comfortable working both independently and alongside staff
• Detail-oriented and observant
• Physically capable of walking patrols regularly
• Follows direction and site expectations
• Understands presence over enforcement
