Job description

This position resides within the Police & Security Service at the Alaska VA Healthcare Center in Anchorage Alaska. Performing administrative and communication support work related to law enforcement and physical security programs.
This is an open continuous announcement.Applicants will be accepted on a ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered. The close date for this announcement is September 30th, 2026.Qualifications:To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2026.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: general administrative and/or clerical skills; knowledge of Police Service dispatch communication equipment and dispatch procedures; ability to sustain emotional and mental stability while under pressure of handling procedures related to emergency situations; skill in oral and written communications to prepare and present correspondence and reports; ability to operate specialized equipment associated with electronic surveillance devices and intrusion and duress alarm systems; police terminology and radio dispatch procedures. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4-year course of study above high school. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED
