Job Summary: Application Security Advisor / Trainer
Location: Remote (must reside within 100 miles of Charlotte, Atlanta, Richmond, or Orlando)
Assignment Length: 12+ months
Compensation: $80-$85/hour W2
About the Role
Join a leading financial institution as an Application Security Advisor / Trainer. Use your development experience to bridge the gap between security and DevOps, enabling development teams to adopt secure coding practices. You won't be developing code, but your expertise in Java and Python will empower you to advise teams, deliver practical training, and improve security posture across the enterprise. This is a fully remote opportunity within select regions, offering the chance to impact high-stakes projects and build your career in application security.
Responsibilities
- Advise and support development teams in interpreting and remediating application security findings (SAST, SCA, secrets, API, container, and IaC scanning).
- Deliver targeted enablement and training through working sessions, office hours, and written guides, helping developers understand and remediate common vulnerabilities (CWEs).
- Develop and maintain clear self-service documentation, remediation playbooks, and comprehensive training materials.
- Partner with security and DevOps teams to support secure integration into CI/CD pipelines and drive vulnerability burndown.
- Track remediation progress, assist teams in prioritizing efforts based on risk, and report on outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on programming experience with Java and Python (JavaScript, C#, or similar languages also valuable).
- In-depth understanding of application security concepts, including OWASP Top 10, secure coding, and common vulnerability classes (CWEs).
- Familiarity with application security scanning methodologies (SAST, SCA, secrets scanning).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to explain technical security concepts to developers.
- Experience creating technical documentation or delivering training content.

- Exposure to CI/CD pipeline security integration.
- Knowledge of container and cloud security scanning practices.
- Experience with vulnerability management workflows and ticketing systems.
