Director of Enterprise TechnologyBig Sandy Distribution | ARC-Ashland, KY  on-site with travel across our footprint
Full-time

About Big Sandy Superstore

Big Sandy Superstore is a growing, employee-owned retailer of furniture, mattresses, and
appliances, serving customers across five states from nearly 30 stores and four distribution
centers. We are on a clear path to become a technology-driven company: one that turns data
and automation into smarter buying, faster service, and a better experience for our customers
and our people. Because we are employee-owned, everyone here has a real stake in getting it
right.
The opportunity

This is a newly created, single accountable technology leadership role. You will build and lead
our Enterprise Technology function as one team and take ownership of everything technology
touches: strategy, security, infrastructure, applications, data, talent, and spend. You will report
directly to our CEO and President with the mandate, and the runway, to build the technology
organization this company needs as it scales.
If you want to build something, not just maintain it, this is that role. You will bring order and
security to a hands-on environment, set the roadmap, grow the team, and prepare our
technology to scale ahead of meaningful growth.
What you will own

• Strategy and roadmap across four areas: security and governance, IT and operations,
applications and engineering, and data and analytics.
• Security and governance. Stand up and own a security program aligned to leading
frameworks (CIS Controls, NIST CSF, PCI-DSS), including risk, identity and access,
monitoring, and incident response.
• Operations, infrastructure, and applications. Reliable, secure systems across every
store and distribution center, with tested backup and disaster recovery.
• Data foundation. Build toward a single, trusted source of truth that powers analytics and
automation.
• Team and talent. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of IT, systems, and software
professionals, and hire as we scale.
• Budget and vendors. Own technology spend, build the business case for investment, and
manage vendor relationships.
What you bring

• 10+ years in technology, including 5+ years leading teams and owning technology strategy
and operations.
• Proven ownership of enterprise security, infrastructure, and applications, including building
or maturing a security program.
• Experience scaling technology through growth: multi-site, acquisitions, or rapid expansion.
• A track record of translating business strategy into technology roadmaps and executing
them.
• Strong financial acumen: budgets, business cases, and vendor management.
• Broad command across enterprise IT, infrastructure, security, software and DevOps, and
data and analytics. You do not need to be the deepest expert in every area, but you must
lead each one credibly and earn the teams respect.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience. A master's degree and
security or leadership certifications (such as CISSP or CISM) are a plus.
Why this role

• A real mandate. You are the single accountable technology leader, reporting to the
owners, with the authority to build it right.
• Build, do not babysit. A ground-floor leadership opportunity to shape strategy, structure,
and standards from the start.
• Ownership that means something. As an employee-owned company, your work builds
value you share in.
• Growth ahead. You will help lead technology through a period of meaningful expansion.
