Public Housing Specialist – Multifamily Properties

Job Summary
The Public Housing Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration and compliance of affordable and multifamily housing programs. This position ensures resident files, certifications, recertifications, and program documentation are accurate and completed in accordance with HUD and applicable housing program requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process move-ins, annual recertifications, interim certifications, and resident transfers.
  • Review income, assets, student status, and eligibility documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete resident files.
  • Ensure compliance with HUD, LIHTC, Section 8, and other applicable program requirements.
  • Conduct file reviews and assist with correcting compliance issues.
  • Communicate with residents regarding eligibility, documentation, and certification requirements.
  • Work closely with Community Managers and property staff to meet compliance deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and company information.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information in property management systems.
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and requests from regulatory agencies.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in Business, Housing, Property Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of affordable housing, property management, compliance, or resident services experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HUD, Section 8, LIHTC, or other affordable housing programs preferred.
  • Experience with Yardi or other property management software is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to understand and apply detailed program regulations and guidelines.
  • Must be highly organized and able to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive resident information.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
