Job description

Position Summary:
The Marlins Youth Academy Baseball & Softball Seasonal Coach will focus on executing sports-based youth development programs to teach the game of baseball and softball, while simultaneously providing life-changing social and emotional learning for youth ages 5-18.
Essential Functions: Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
Marlins Jr. RBI Program
  • Serve as coach to teach the fundamentals of baseball and lead a tee ball, coach pitch or kid pitch team which includes facilitating practices and games to encourage youth participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques
  • Work with fellow coaches and supervisor to confirm practice plans using Marlins Rookies curriculum per week to help players strengthen individual skills and team cohesiveness, while also developing life skills and intangibles necessary for team sports.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Jr. RBI program with community partners like Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade Gwen Cherry, Northwest Club, City of Hialeah Parks and Recreations, Centro Mater which includes communicating with parents, help managing the online registration database on League Apps, collection of paperwork and distribution of uniforms and equipment
  • Coordinate the operations of Jr. RBI program with Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade, Gwen Cherry Park, City of Hialeah, and Northwest Club supervisor which includes management of the league, assist with field maintenance, scheduling updates, and maintain rosters
  • Serve as umpire for Jr. RBI games when needed
  • Maintain knowledge of and implement Marlins Youth Baseball and Softball development strategies and techniques to organized activities
  • Promote Marlins Jr. RBI to local community organizations, schools, and more

Marlins RBI Program
  • Responsible for overseeing the operations of baseball and/or softball games within Miami-Dade and Broward County which include managing rosters and confirming are on League apps, facilitating that fields and umpires are ready for game, communicating with coaches at games regarding rules and conduct. Also assist as a coach or umpire if needed
  • Assist with additional programming such as clinics for baseball and softball, RBI All-star team try-outs and practices
  • Promote Marlins RBI to local community organizations, schools, and more

Marlins Youth Academy
  • Maintain regular communication with Miami Marlins staff on updates regarding program
  • Supervise, motivate and provide instruction for players between the ages of 6-18, as well as evaluate athletes' skills and provide constructive feedback or ways to improve skills.
  • Assess player's strengths and weaknesses and implement individualized training.
  • Help plan practice/clinic agendas.
  • Develop game strategies, adapt tactics based on opponents, and make in-game decisions to maximize athlete and team performance.
  • Prioritize the safety of players by enforcing safety protocols and teaching proper techniques to prevent injury.
  • Inspire and motivate players to perform at their best, maintain a positive attitude and address concerns/conflicts.
  • Attend any attending any workshops, seminars, trainings, meetings, and special initiatives that is requested by the Miami Marlins Foundation to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Assist with the operation of various Youth Baseball & Softball events held throughout South Florida including clinic setup, registration, and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to optimize training sessions and game preparation
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work nights/weekends
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of rules and regulations governing baseball/softball and aspects of the sport including hitting, pitching, fielding and base running techniques
  • Ability to plan and organize practice, games, and team activities
  • Ability to throw batting practice
  • Ability to hit fungo
  • Ability to work in outdoor environment to include extreme heat and rain for an extended period of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must submit and pass a criminal background check and drug screening

Suggested Education & Experience Guidelines:
  • High School Diploma. Must be 18 years old
  • Played baseball/softball up to the collegiate level, or have high school playing/coaching experience.
  • Experience & knowledge of working with youth baseball and/or softball programs preferred
  • Experience working with youth recreation programs preferred
