Class/Group: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Vehicle Maintenance Manager

Pay Range: $19.00-$25.00

Supervises: N/A

Status: Full-Time - Winter or Summer Seasonal

VEHICLE MECHANIC JOB SUMMARY:

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of mountain operational equipment. This includes snowcats, snowmobiles, buses, plow trucks, sanding trucks, 4x4 pickups, and heavy machinery. A strong understanding of gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and hydrostatic drive systems is essential. The position supports the grooming operations vital to Mission Ridge’s ski product and requires a hands-on, safety-conscious, and collaborative individual.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:

  • Equipment maintenance: Perform regular maintenance on all Mission Ridge operational vehicles and machinery.
  • Department collaboration: Work with all mountain departments to ensure equipment readiness.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics: Identify and repair reported and observed mechanical issues.
  • Workplace safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Mechanical repair: Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems using hand, power, and specialized tools.
  • Fabrication: Basic metalworking and fabrication skills are helpful for in-house repairs.
  • Guest interaction: Must maintain a friendly attitude and assist with occasional minor guest vehicle issues.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills are required for working closely with grooming staff and equipment operators.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years of on-the-job mechanical experience is required. Basic technical training in automotive or heavy equipment repair is strongly preferred. Applicants should have basic computer and office skills or the willingness to learn them as part of the role.
 

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

This position involves frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and machine controls. Candidates must be able to lift or move objects weighing 100 pounds or more safely. Good vision—including color recognition, peripheral vision, and depth perception—is essential for diagnosing and completing mechanical tasks. The role requires solving practical problems in a hands-on setting and occasionally working in uncomfortable conditions such as dark, cold, snowy, muddy, hot, dusty, or greasy environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Vehicle Mechanics work near moving mechanical equipment and on uneven or slippery surfaces, which may present challenging footing. The work environment frequently includes exposure to airborne particles, loud noise, outdoor weather conditions, and potentially hazardous chemicals. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
