Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized non-profit community group dedicated to protecting and improving Atlanta's urban forest through planting, conserving, and educating. Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlanta's tree loss, protect its forests, and create new greenspace. Empowered by its wonderful community of volunteers, Trees Atlanta serves the metro Atlanta area, and has grown to become one of Atlanta's most widely known and supported non-profit organizations. Managed by Trees Atlanta, in partnership with Atlanta Beltline Inc., Atlanta Beltline Partnership, and the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum is a public garden centered on promoting native plants through education, restoration, demonstration, and display. First imagined in 2005, the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum is currently certified as a Level II arboretum. The arboretum serves as a component of Atlanta's urban forest, acts as an ecological corridor and learning landscape, and provides a place for education, community science, and scientific research. Trees Atlanta is an integral partner with Atlanta Beltline Inc., and the Beltline Arboretum Trail Lead will be an instrumental team member in the maintenance of the Arboretum. This position is a full-time, on-site and is not eligible for remote work.

Job Description

The Beltline Trail Lead will perform all functions of the Gardener position and assume the following additional responsibilities:

  • Assist Beltline Arboretum Quadrant Supervisor in training gardeners in all aspects of horticultural care and grounds maintenance, including but not limited to vegetation management, mowing, mulching, planting, watering, etc.
  • Assist in upholding quality standards in the field by providing feedback to both gardeners and seasonal technicians
  • Provide feedback on priorities for punch lists during walkthroughs as well as on-site in real time
  • Conduct occasional walkthroughs to maintain and uphold quality standards in assigned section, as assigned by Beltline Arboretum Quadrant Supervisor
  • Lead groups of volunteers (no group size limit) on maintenance projects
  • Perform occasional inspection reports on Beltline corridor sections & assets, as requested
  • Drive Trees Atlanta vehicles including trucks, trailers, gators, and utilize a variety of hand and power tools including but not limited to, pruning saws, shovel, leaf blower, and string trimmer
Requirements
  • Interest and passion for trees, plants (specifically native plants), and/or urban ecology and horticulture
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a public garden
  • Experience with supervising volunteers, interns, or employees desired
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and confidence.
  • Occasional flexibility to work on an evening or weekend
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and effectively communicate with other team members.
Physical Work Requirements
  • A valid driver's license (minimum of three-year history) with a clean record.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical.
  • Proficiency in pickup truck and trailer driving preferred.
  • Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions. The majority of work for this position will be performed outside.
  • Updated tetanus shot.
