Job description

Our client is a well-established community development organization focused on large-scale urban revitalisation and professional services. Serving over 17,000 clients annually, they are currently in a phase of significant operational scaling and are modernizing their financial infrastructure to support long-term growth.
The Accounting Manager is a critical leadership position designed to elevate our client's financial and operational maturity. This individual will own the technical accounting function, spearhead audit-readiness frameworks, and design the communication rhythms necessary for a high-accountability culture. We are seeking a professional who balances technical GAAP mastery with an operational mindset to anticipate risks and lead through growth.
Core Responsibilities
1. Financial Close Excellence
  • Direct the complete month-end close cycle to ensure high-velocity accuracy.
  • Redesign workflows to eliminate bottlenecks and standardize deliverables.
  • Ensure all reconciliations and financial schedules meet rigorous precision standards.

2. Proactive Audit & Compliance
  • Transform audit preparation from a seasonal event into a year-round "ready" state.
  • Maintain robust internal controls compliant with GAAP and non-profit grant requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, resolving potential issues before they escalate.

3. Specialized Grant & Fund Accounting
  • Manage complex restricted/unrestricted fund structures and program allocations.
  • Oversee revenue recognition and donor-specific compliance.
  • Provide the accurate data foundations required for budgeting and long-term forecasting.

4. Systems Architecture
  • Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting software and reporting tools.
  • Author and maintain comprehensive process documentation to ensure operational continuity.
  • Automate manual workflows to increase departmental efficiency.

5. Strategic Leadership
  • Foster a culture of radical transparency, escalating risks and delays proactively.
  • Mentor finance staff, promoting a growth mindset and self-awareness within the team.
  • Partner with cross-functional departments to align financial deadlines with organizational goals.

Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience, with a focus on non-profit or grant-heavy accounting.
  • Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of GAAP and non-profit financial reporting.
  • Systems: Proven track record of improving or implementing financial software systems.
