We are seeking an RF engineer to develop, analyze, and optimize RF electrical aspects of sensor systems. As a member of the Sensor Systems Engineering group, you collaborate with teams of passionate engineers and scientists who build, analyze, and test systems for the Air and Missile Defense Sector. Our team strives to deliver robust solutions to address difficult problems facing the U.S. Department of Defense and the warfighter. As an RF Design Engineer, you will...
  • Build innovative hardware solutions such as antennas, custom PCBs, RF circuits and systems.
  • Apply electrical and RF engineering tools to develop and predict hardware performance.
  • Define and complete hardware test activities to assess hardware system performance.
  • Document and present work to sponsors, technical teams, and APL management.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest RF electronics, embedded systems, and embedded software innovations.
  • Continually grow your skills in engineering, communication, and leadership.

Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a B.S. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical domain.
  • Have demonstrated ability with ECAD design tools such as Altium, Ki-CAD, Eagle, and/or Mentor Graphics.
  • Have familiarity using embedded software tools/ languages (i.e. Arduino, Platform.io, CMake, C, C++).
  • Have experience with MATLAB or similar computational tools.
  • Are comfortable using lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, etc.
  • Have familiarity with electromagnetic and RF concepts such as transmission line theory, Maxwell's equations, power budgets.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Are able to acquire an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately acquire a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Have experience working with Navy, Army, Marine, or Air Force radar or communications systems.
  • Have experience developing RF systems or subsystems (i.e. amplifier stages, filtering, combining networks, etc.)
  • Have experience designing, manufacturing, populating, and testing custom PCBs.
  • Have familiarity writing VHDL and/or working with FPGAs.
  • Have a strong understanding of full-wave electromagnetic solvers.
  • Carry experience operating within a rapid prototyping environment.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $85,000 Annually
