Reports to: Quality Control Manager

Our facility is 24/7, so availability for overtime is a requirement. In addition, this role will be expected to work 7 days a week throughout the season to support the plant objectives. In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn different monitoring processes that ensure food safety and product quality. You will work with the Quality Control Supervisor and/ or Manager to better understand the overall functions of the department.

Primary Duties and Requirements:

  1. May check specific gravities using hydrometer
  2. May make NTSS determination using airfuge and/or Refractometer
  3. May inspect raw materials and finished product visually for insects and mold.
  4. May make color, consistency, taste, texture determinations.
  5. May make simple pH determinations using pH meter.
  6. May perform simple end-point titrations.
  7. May weigh cans for fill and net weight determinations.
  8. May check color using color meter.
  9. May operate Texture Gauge
  10. May check consistency of product using consistometer.
  11. May inspect raw and/or finished product for defects (peel, BER) and color.
  12. May monitor on-line condiment dispensing using scale.
  13. May monitor full cans for visual defects.
  14. May operate vacuum pump.
  15. May use dial thermometers to measure product temperature.
  16. May operate dial thermometer calibrator.
  17. May perform sanitation and GMP inspections.
  18. May monitor batching operations.
  19. May use microscope for inspection of raw and finished product.
  20. Will record and immediately report findings.
  21. Use laboratory office machines for recording results.
  22. Review and evaluate inspection results, etc.
  23. Give work directions and train laboratory employees.
  24. Paperwork; completing sorting, filing, copying and distribution.
  25. Responsible for making sure lab or workstation is tidy and orderly state and lab supplies are available.
  26. General knowledge of plant operations.
  27. Passing grade in Howard Mold Procedure class

    SECONDARY DUTIES:                                                                                              

  1. Monitoring the production process and performing routine food safety and quality assurance (FSQA), and/or quality control checks in accordance with the food safety and quality programs at the manufacturing site. Ensuring the process is in control and the product meets the standards set by the Company.
  2. Other duties as determined by QC supervisor/management.
  3. Subject to test.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be detailed oriented. Have strong mathematical and analytical aptitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and legible handwriting.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet outlined timeframes for monitoring checks.
  • Ability to learn how to place non-conforming products or equipment on hold.
  • Able to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to rotate into various departments with varying QC related job duties as needed.
  • Reliable in attendance for work daily and ready to work on-time to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to work from July - end of September.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in food processing and/or quality preferred.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s, SOP’s.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 25% or less sitting, 50% or less walking, and 50% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a cannery environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required.
