Job description

An apparel industry leader for 30+ years, The Kasper Group has remained committed to excellence in offering iconic brands and relevant womenswear designs.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Director of Fabric & Product Development Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Works on the creation, development and execution of seasonal prints, patterns and color from concept through the production handoff.
  • Source and develop textiles according to design direction and aesthetic, within divisional price parameters to meet required mark-ups.
  • Bring newness to design teams from mills and suppliers, proactively work with mills to be brand relevant.
  • Strong technical knowledge of woven fabrics. Hands on knowledge of finishing and dyeing processes, both in garment and piece goods form, construction options and alternatives to get optimum product at best cost.
  • Knowledge of testing requirements for fabric and garments, and ability to problem solve to achieve approvals.
  • Collaborates with Design, CAD, and outside studios to develop focused and cohesive prints that are brand appropriate to sit within the collection.
  • Establish print selections incorporate new & repeat bestselling color standards & prints.
  • Communicates with the CAD team throughout the print package creation process and advise how to create artwork, repeats, technical print information, and engineered measurements based on fabric or mill limitations within calendar deadlines.
  • Creates and maintains seasonal print development chart by brand.
  • Is responsible for preparing all prints to be in production ready form to pass off for bulk strike-off.
  • Requests and manages ENCAD requests to be received in a timely manner for showroom appointments.
  • Review ENCAD yardage & buck presses to ensure direction in matching artwork.
  • Work with CAD artist to match all color to system paper standard.
  • Proactively watch market trends and analyze applicability to each brand.
  • Counter source production challenges to be in front of calendar deadlines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with costing team to monitor costs in advance of placements.
