Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Carolina Housing is committed to providing convenient housing that is secure, inclusive, and supportive. Students create a home in our on-campus communities, build life-long friendships and develop skills for their current and futures successes as they journey through their Carolina experience. In support of this mission, the department provides a comprehensive campus housing operation for approximately 10,000 residents including business services, residence life and education, family housing, administrative services, housekeeping, maintenance, human resources, marketing, and information technology. Within these operations, over 500 full-time, part-time, and student staff are responsible for 3.1 million square feet of residential space and an annual auxiliary budget of over $70 million. The department receives no State funding, which makes the operation unique in that it must manage both revenue and expense projections and budgets. The department is also dynamic in that it must continuously adjust to changes in student preferences, demand, rate levels, and a changing landscape of construction and renovation, and enrollment growth. Carolina Housing prides itself on being student-centered, data -driven and dedicated to continuous improvement. To that end, the department is amid implementing its five-year strategic plan and in the process of long-term capital planning that is likely to include renovation and new construction.
Position Summary
We are a well-established organization within Carolina Housing that operates multiple package center locations on campus, providing essential mail services to over 8,600 on-campus residents. Our Package Centers handle a substantial volume of packages and letters annually, relying on a dedicated team of student and temporary staff. As we continue to grow and innovate, we are seeking skilled and autonomous Package Center Managers to oversee and optimize our mail operations.
The Package Center Manager plays a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising activities similar to a post office. This position is responsible for managing the handling, receiving, storing, and distributing of all types of US mail, external carriers, and interdepartmental correspondence for our on-campus residents. The Package Center Manager will serve as the sole supervisor of the Package Center and act as a backup for the Assistant Director for Package Operations, overseeing all residential mail services on campus.
Responsibilities:
* Independently manage and supervise the Package Center Operations, ensuring efficient handling of over 170,000 packages and 110,000 letters annually.
* Lead and mentor a team of 40+ student employees, and seasonal temporary staff, providing guidance, training, and support to maintain high-quality service standards.
* Prioritize communication with residents on all mail-related matters, addressing their concerns promptly and professionally.
* Create work schedules for student and temporary staff to optimize coverage and service levels.
* Act as the Facility OS Package Software Administrator, ensuring seamless operations and compliance with Federal Mail Regulations.
* Facilitate comprehensive training programs for student, temporary, and professional staff, including adherence to Federal Mail guidelines, fire safety, and Environmental Health and Safety standards.
* Collaborate with housekeeping, external carriers, and facilities to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
* Maintain accurate accounting and inventory records.
* Oversee the hiring process for student and seasonal temporary staff ensuring a capable and motivated workforce.
* Summer duties may include the continued management of a Package Center, assisting with the management of summer conference and guest housing, or other functions as needed.
