Job description

The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

BASIC PURPOSE

The Music Coordinator will shape, nurture, and lead the music ministries at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Suisun. This role involves fostering a Christ-centered musical environment across worship services, youth and adult programs, community outreach, and seasonal events. All efforts should reflect and support The Salvation Army’s mission: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve all people without discrimination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers and musicians—both adults and youth—for worship teams, choirs, brass bands, or other ensembles.
  • Develop music programming and provide instruction for youth ministries, such as singing companies, beginner music lessons, and junior bands.
  • Organize and direct seasonal musical events like Christmas programs, Easter services, and community concerts.
  • Work Schedule:  Regular Sundays for church services
    • Regular Tuesdays for Joyful Noise Music Program
    • Weekly rehearsal
    • Available for additional services and rehearsals for holidays and special events

    Joyful Noise Music Program (Every Tuesday) 

    • Oversee the entire program for the Corps Officers. Corps Officers will provide final approval of decisions regarding budget, equipment needs, staffing and programming of the Joyful Noise Music program.
    • Coordinate and produce quarterly performances.
    • Schedule and oversee volunteer instructors for the Joyful Noise Music Program as directed by the Corps Officers. 
    • Maintain musical instruments and associated equipment.

                      Worship Sundays  

    • Lead and coordinate music for weekly worship services, including song selection and rehearsals. 
    • Collaborate with Corps Officers to ensure cohesive worship services.
    • Provide musical leadership during services, instrumental and/or vocal as applicable.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

    1. Proficiency in playing at least two instruments (e.g. piano, guitar, brass).
    2. Formal training in music or worship leadership preferred.
    3. Demonstrated musical ability (vocal and instrumental).
    4. Experience leading choirs, bands, or worship teams in a church or similar setting.
    5. Ability to read music and teach musicians across various skill levels.
    6. Knowledge of worship styles relevant to the congregation.
    7. Strong organizational and communication skills.
    8. Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
    9. Ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position with professionalism, reliability, and spiritual maturity.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
    2. Must be 21 years or older.
    3. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.
    4. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
    2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects
    3. Ability to reach overhead
    4. Ability to operate telephone
    5. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative positions
    6. Ability to operate a computer
    7. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
    8. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
