What We Look For In a Competition Math Tutor

Guides students through constructing elegant proofs, recognizing problem patterns, applying casework and symmetry arguments, and developing competition time management skills. Emphasizes mathematical creativity and resilience, connecting problem-solving techniques across algebra, geometry, and combinatorics.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with competition math syllabi from AMC, MATHCOUNTS, and Math Olympiad programs, and common challenges such as transitioning from computational to proof-based problems and managing contest time pressure. Adapts instruction using historical contest problems, difficulty scaffolding, and targeted topic drills to support students from beginner through advanced competition levels.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
