What is a seasonal independent merchandiser?

Seasonal Independent Merchandisers are professionals who work on a temporary or seasonal basis to set up, organize, and maintain product displays in retail stores. They are typically hired by manufacturers or third-party agencies to ensure that products are presented attractively and stocked correctly during peak seasons, such as holidays or back-to-school periods. As independent contractors, they often manage their own schedules and may work with multiple brands or retailers at once. Their responsibilities can include stocking shelves, setting up promotional displays, and reporting inventory levels.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a seasonal independent merchandiser?

To thrive as a Seasonal Independent Merchandiser, you need experience in retail or merchandising, strong organizational skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with planograms, inventory management tools, and mobile reporting apps is typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure displays are set up efficiently, inventory is accurately tracked, and client standards are consistently met during busy seasonal periods.

What unique challenges do seasonal independent merchandisers face during peak retail periods?

Seasonal Independent Merchandisers often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of store visits within tight deadlines, adapting quickly to changing retail priorities, and ensuring that promotional displays are set up accurately and efficiently. The work is typically fast-paced and may involve traveling between multiple store locations each day. Effective communication with store managers and flexibility in schedule are essential for overcoming these challenges and ensuring that products are well-represented during busy seasons.

Wright Beverage Distributing

SEASONAL INCENTIVE AVAILABLE

Wright Beverage Distributing is looking for a Merchandiser to join our team. If you like being on the move, working with people, and want a real path into sales, this is a great place to start.

Many of our Sales Reps began their careers as Merchandisers. On average, team members move into a Swing Rep or Sales Rep role within about a year. This role is hands-on, fastpaced, and a great way to learn the business from the ground up while building trust with customers and learning our brands.

We provide training, support, and development from day one, plus a strong benefits package for you and your family. This isn’t just a job. It’s a kickoff to a career at Wright Beverage

What this role is all about
Merchandisers are the heartbeat of how our products show up in stores. You help make sure our brands look great, are fully stocked, and are easy for customers to find. You also work closely with Sales Reps and store teams to spot opportunities and solve problems.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll fill coolers, shelves, and displays with Wright Beverage products
  • You’ll build and maintain displays that catch attention
  • You’ll organize backroom inventory and rotate product
  • You’ll check dates and remove closedated or outofcode product
  • You’ll use pointofsale materials and signage as directed
  • You’ll follow Wright Beverage merchandising and quality standards
  • You’ll communicate with Sales Reps and supervisors about store needs, issues, or opportunities
  • You’ll check in and out with account contacts at each stop
  • You’ll manage your route priorities with guidance from your Sales Rep or Supervisor

What we’re looking for

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • MUST have weekend availability
  • Some Holidays will be required
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Comfort working independently and interacting with store teams
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be on your feet throughout the day
  • Valid NYS driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Merchandising experience is a plus, but not required. We will train the right person.

Work environment

  • This role works across our Wright Beverage territories and retail accounts
  • You’ll spend time driving, working in stores, and handling product
  • You’ll be exposed to all weather conditions

Why Wright

  • We believe in promoting from within
  • You’ll gain real experience that leads to sales opportunities
  • You’ll work with well-known brands and a supportive team
  • Strong benefits for you and your family
  • Growth, stability, and a company that invests in its people

Benefits

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Disability insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
