Job description

TITLE: Fleet Mechanic & Maintenance
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Shop Manager & Fleet Manager
LOCATION: Haines, Alaska 
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Seasonal, Full-Time
SEASON: April/May – October


Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a diesel mechanic or working with diesel-powered equipment.


JOB SUMMARY

The Fleet Mechanic & Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing hands-on maintenance, repairs, and inspections for Alaska Mountain Guides’ fleet and facilities. This role supports the Shop Manager and Fleet Manager by executing scheduled maintenance, identifying mechanical issues, completing repairs, and accurately documenting all work performed.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fleet Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on:
    • UTVs (Kawasaki Teryx , Honda Pioneer)
    • Buses and shuttle buses
    • Passenger vans and gear trucks
  • Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as directed by the Shop Manager and Fleet Manager.
  • Complete daily and weekly vehicle checks and accurately document work performed using provided maintenance logs.
  • Track maintenance and repairs by individual vehicle and report findings, concerns, or recurring issues to the Shop Manager or Fleet Manager.
  • Immediately report any safety or performance concerns affecting vehicle operation.
  • Assist with emergency roadside repairs.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Shop Manager or Fleet Manager regarding vehicle condition and availability.

Facilities, Property & Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs for company properties, offices, warehouses, and employee housing in Haines and Skagway as assigned.
  • Assist with seasonal setup and breakdown of operational infrastructure, including bathroom trailers and housing.
  • Support road, yard, and site maintenance projects as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in shop and work areas.

Seasonal & Operational Support

  • Travel between Haines and Skagway as-needed to support fleet and facility maintenance.
  • Assist with end-of-season shutdown of company housing and equipment in Skagway.
  • On rare occasions, assist with gear truck driving or operational support as directed.
  • Assist with additional projects or operational needs as assigned by Operations, the Shop Manager, or Fleet Manager.
