What is seasonal farm work?

Seasonal farm work refers to temporary jobs on farms that are available during specific times of the year, often tied to planting, growing, or harvesting crops. These jobs may involve tasks such as planting seeds, tending to plants, picking fruits or vegetables, and packaging produce. The work is physically demanding and typically outdoors, with hours and length of employment varying depending on the crop and region. Seasonal farm work is essential for the agricultural industry, helping farmers manage peak workloads and ensure crops are harvested on time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a seasonal farm worker?

To thrive as a Seasonal Farm Worker, you need physical stamina, basic agricultural knowledge, and the ability to operate farm machinery, often with no formal education required but sometimes needing safety training. Familiarity with tools like tractors, irrigation systems, and basic harvesting equipment is common, and some farms may require knowledge of pesticide application or food safety certifications. Strong work ethic, reliability, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills for meeting production goals and adapting to changing tasks. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring efficient, safe, and productive operations during peak agricultural seasons.

What are some common challenges faced during seasonal farm work, and how can they be managed?

Seasonal farm work often involves long hours outdoors, physically demanding tasks, and adapting to changing weather conditions. Workers may face challenges such as fatigue, repetitive motions, and the need to quickly learn new equipment or procedures. To manage these challenges, it’s important to stay hydrated, take regular breaks, use proper lifting techniques, and communicate openly with supervisors about any concerns. Many farms also provide safety training and encourage teamwork to ensure a supportive and efficient work environment.

Uphold farm values of hospitality, safety, teamwork, and integrity.
Model a positive attitude and strong work ethic at all times.
Requirements

  • Team members may be eligible for pay increases as they develop expanded farm skills, strengthen guest interaction abilities, take initiative on projects, and consistently model strong teamwork and accountability.
  • We prioritize promoting from within and offer leadership roles. Team members who work during our peak season (September 15 - October 31) may have access to performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Hands-on agricultural and hospitality experience.
