Job description

Be part of an amazing story

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

We’re looking for a trailblazing creative leader to completely reimagine our in-house photo and video studio for a new era. The Senior Director, Studio Creative Innovation will lead the transformation of a legacy content engine into a cutting-edge, future-ready storytelling hub. You will architect the studio of tomorrow—where AI-enabled workflows, experiential storytelling, and high-impact brand visuals meet operational excellence.

This is more than a leadership role—it’s a creative reinvention mandate. We’re seeking someone with bold vision, cultural fluency, and the ability to turn creative energy into measurable business impact across e-commerce, social, editorial, and marketing channels.

What You Will Do

Studio Reinvention & Vision

  • Reimagine the creative studio as an innovation lab—combining speed, scale, and storytelling.
  • Define a bold, modern vision for how content is captured, created, edited, and distributed across all touchpoints.
  • Integrate emerging technologies, including AI/CGI, real-time content capture, and automation to streamline workflows and future-proof production.

Creative Direction & Storytelling Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end production for photography and video—from concept to post—across still life, on-figure, campaign, social, and experiential formats.
  • Set a high creative bar for all content, ensuring it’s emotionally resonant, culturally relevant, and visually magnetic.
  • Collaborate with brand creative, marketing, and merchant teams to translate seasonal narratives, trend stories, and key launches into compelling visual moments.

Operational Innovation

  • Overhaul existing studio systems and processes to create a nimble, efficient, and scalable content ecosystem.
  • Build hybrid models for in-house and external production, with a focus on agility and budget optimization.
  • Lead resourcing, budgeting, vendor partnerships, and technology integration with a startup mindset.

Cross-Functional & Cultural Leadership

  • Be a trusted creative partner to executives and key stakeholders across creative, brand, digital, and merchandising.
  • Inspire, mentor, and mobilize a high-performing team across art direction, styling, production, editing, and post.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation, diversity, and creativity within the studio and beyond.

Entrepreneurial & Commercial Growth

  • Unlock new value from the studio by exploring monetization models, brand collaborations, or co-branded productions.
  • Position the studio as a strategic asset that fuels not just marketing, but revenue and cultural relevance.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

  • 15+ years leading photo and video content in fast-paced retail, fashion, lifestyle, or media environments.
  • Proven ability to lead creative transformation—rebuilding legacy systems into modern, agile, tech-forward operations.
  • Deep understanding of fashion/lifestyle storytelling, customer experience, and omnichannel content strategy.
  • Experience with AI, CGI, and emerging visual production technologies a plus.
  • Strong creative instincts and aesthetic sensibility, with a commercial mindset.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Who You Are

  • You’re a visionary builder—ready to disrupt the traditional studio model and shape something radically better.
  • You’re a creative strategist who can connect brand storytelling with tech innovation and business growth.
  • You’re a culture shaper—excited to lead through inspiration, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • You don’t just follow trends—you set them.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
