Job description

Worship & Music Staff Opportunities

St. John Lutheran Church – Bellville, Texas

St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas, is seeking gifted, creative, and faithful worship leaders and musicians to help shape and lead a vibrant ministry rooted in our Lutheran heritage while reaching toward the future.

We value worship that is deeply grounded in Word and Sacrament, are proud of our identity as an ELCA congregation, and embrace a variety of musical expressions and worship styles.

Position Structure & Compensation

We are open to structuring this ministry in several ways, including:

  • Multiple part-time positions sharing responsibilities among musicians, worship leaders, directors, and technical staff
  • One full-time Worship & Music Director overseeing the broader worship and music ministry
  • A customized arrangement built around the gifts and calling of the right candidate(s)

We are more interested in finding the right people than fitting applicants into a predetermined structure.

Compensation Guidelines

  • Full-Time Worship & Music Director: Approximately $75,000+ annually, based on experience and scope of responsibilities
  • Part-Time & Shared Leadership Roles: Compensation scaled according to responsibilities and hours
  • Contract or Week-to-Week Musicians: Starting around $150 per service or engagement, with opportunities for recurring leadership and expanded responsibilities

Candidates with strengths in worship leadership, technology, directing ensembles, administration, or community music development are encouraged to apply.

Worship Leadership & Planning

  • Collaborate with the pastor and worship team in planning worship services
  • Select music appropriate to seasons, themes, and Lutheran liturgical traditions
  • Support worship that is both rooted and creative
  • Assist with special services including Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Christmas, weddings, funerals, and festivals
  • Ability to chant portions of the liturgy in the Lutheran tradition is appreciated but not required

  • Contemporary praise band
  • Men’s Choir
  • Women’s Choir
  • Early Birds Mixed Choir
  • Youth Choir

  • Recruit and train volunteers
  • Help ensure excellence in both in-person and online worship experiences

Faith Formation & Congregational Life

Potential opportunities may include:

  • Youth ministry participation (VBS, camps, choirs)
  • Community music outreach
