Managing these challenges involves staying vigilant, using proper communication techniques, and attending thorough training sessions provided by the employer. What is a seasonal cave tour guide?

Seasonal Cave Tour Guides are professionals who lead visitors through caves, providing educational information about geology, history, and local wildlife. They typically work during peak tourist seasons, such as summer or holidays, when visitor numbers are highest. These guides ensure the safety of guests, interpret natural features, and often answer questions about the cave's formation and preservation. The role requires strong communication skills, physical fitness, and an enthusiasm for the outdoors. Training in first aid and knowledge of cave conservation practices are often necessary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a seasonal cave tour guide, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Seasonal Cave Tour Guide, you need a solid understanding of geology, local cave history, and safety procedures, often supported by basic first aid certification. Familiarity with handheld radios, lighting equipment, and reservation or ticketing systems is typically required. Excellent communication, storytelling ability, and strong leadership skills help guides engage diverse groups and respond calmly to unexpected situations. These skills ensure safe, informative, and memorable experiences for visitors while maintaining group safety and site preservation.

Who Are We Hiring?

A Seasonal Tour Guide is often the first, and possibly only, contact that visitors from around the world will have with our building. The time spent with a Tour Guide will create the positive impression of our building, our events, our operation and the overall "Radio City Experience." They will conduct a 60-minute behind-the-scenes walking tour of the building with the goal of giving guests a world-class experience. This position is also responsible for general order and safety of the visitors along the predetermined route as well as greeting and checking in guests at the beginning of each tour.

What Will You Do?
  • Conduct daily public tours of Radio City Music Hall in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Memorize a 20-25-page script and present it in a clear, concise, informative, and entertaining way.
  • Conduct a minimum of 3-4 tours per day.
  • Memorize multiple tour routes and become familiar with all front-of-house and back-of-house areas of the venue.
  • Assist fellow Tour Guides and Seasonal Tour Guides with large groups as needed.
  • Secure, return, and properly use equipment such as radios, keys, uniforms, lockers, props, and technology during tours.
  • Interact and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Stay informed of company and team news, as well as upcoming events.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for guests, partners, and team members by adhering to appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in a tour-related or entertainment industry preferred.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills required, with a focus on customer service.
  • Preferred backgrounds include, but are not limited to, previous employment as a Tour Guide or experience in theater, performing arts, or communications.
  • Excellent memorization and time management skills, with the ability to deliver presentations with energy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in tour scripts, routes, and assignments on short notice.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to check in groups and collect tickets as needed.
Special Requirements of the Job:
  • This is a seasonal position scheduled for the duration of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Opportunities to transition into a regular part-time role may be available based on business needs and performance.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with loud noises and constantly changing visuals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities including standing for extended periods, walking long distances, bending, climbing stairs, and remaining in constant motion.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus but not required.
  • Must be available to work four days per week, including Sundays and holidays as needed.
  • This is a seasonal role; opportunities for longer-term part-time employment may be available upon conclusion of the season.
