Company Description
The New World Symphony (NWS) is a laboratory for generating new ideas about the way music is taught, presented, and experienced. Under the direction of Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, its unique fellowship program trains music school graduates for leadership roles in the field of classical music. Artistic excellence, connection to audiences, engaging communities and entrepreneurial activities are pillars of the experiential curriculum. NWS pursues its work in New World Center (NWC), a Frank Gehry-designed campus that is uniquely suited to embrace the digital future, for education and artistic expression.
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Box Office team, the Seasonal Box Office Associate provides customer service at New World Symphony (NWS) performances and select rental events at New World Center (NWC) from September to May. This role is also responsible for communicating with and providing customer support to VIP Members and Subscribers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answer Box Office phones and provide positive customer service experiences to all patrons during NWS and other performances as assigned
  • Handle ticket sales and any other patron transactions at the Box Office window
  • Process ticket orders in the Tessitura database according to set standards
  • Provide customer service at NWS and other performances assigned
  • Participate in outbound phone campaigns as assigned by Director and/or Box Office Manager
  • Perform basic data input projects as assigned by Director and/or Box Office Manager
  • Respond to VIP, Subscriber, and patron inquires
  • Monitor and maintain general Box Office email inbox and voicemail
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of one year customer service experience, preferably in a box office setting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Interest in orchestral music and/or music education
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Some database and/or ticketing software experience; Tessitura experience preferred
  • Ability to work onsite at New World Center
  • Ability to remain calm during challenging situations and to diffuse difficult interactions with courtesy and professionalism
  • Ability to interact positively and sensitively with a wide variety of personalities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior time management and prioritization skills
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • A collaborative and team-focused work style
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent decision making and conflict resolution skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
