Position Overview
Pay Rate: $14.00 - $16.00/Hour
Work Schedule
Girls Basketball Season: October 19, 2026 - December 5, 2026. Dates subject to change
Boys Basketball Season: January 4, 2027 - February 13, 2027. Dates subject to change
Monday & Wednesday, possibly Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 5:30pm to 8pm for practices and Saturday morning to early afternoon for 4 Saturday gamedays.
Job Description
As a City of Billings Parks, Recreation and Public Lands youth basketball coach you will be expected to demonstrate, instruct and develop basic basketball specific skills with participants in 3rd-5th grade. The instructor's level of play should be at the high school level. Equipment is provided by Billings Parks and Recreation. Coaches will act as a gym supervisor and liaison for the parks and recreation department and be responsible for overseeing the school facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches by following all rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
  • Create planned practices and games at an appropriate level for each participant.
  • Organize the players to participate in games.
  • Give each child an equal opportunity to participate in a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Act as a gym supervisor and will be responsible for set up/storage of equipment while monitoring the gym.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and enforce facility rules.
  • Report scores, issues, and updates to recreation staff promptly.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Enjoy working with kids.
  • Knowledge of basketball rules and bylaws preferred.
  • Operate timing devices and/or the official scorebook for the designated sport.
  • Professional, confident, and capable of dealing with players, parents, and fans.
  • Reliable transportation to and from games and training.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age or older.
