Senior Diesel Technician/Mechanic

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced or Senior-Level Diesel Technician to work with other technicians to provide advanced support for the mechanical and electrical integrity of our national fleet, which includes vehicles from CrewLink, Luxxor Limousine, and Luxxor Campus Shuttles. This role combines expert-level mechanical skills with travel flexibility, performing diagnostics and repairs at job sites across the U.S. When not traveling, you will work from our Des Moines headquarters under the current shop foreman.

This position is ideal for a highly skilled, independent, and motivated technician who takes pride in keeping diverse fleets operating at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities (Broad)

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of fleet vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, limousines, sprinters, minibuses, motor coaches, and transit buses.
  • Manage and prioritize immediate repair needs while maintaining adherence to the scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on both gasoline and diesel vehicles.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and after-treatment systems for optimal fleet performance.
  • Coordinate and manage outsourced mechanical work when necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training to stay current with industry standards, technology, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities (Specific)

  • Travel: Up to 50% domestic travel to job sites on a rotating or as-needed basis.
  • Mechanical Expertise: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, particularly Cummins engines paired with Allison and Voith transmissions.
  • Technical Systems:
  • Skilled with Cummins Insite and QuickServe platforms.
  • Experienced with after-treatment diagnostics, charge air systems, and electrical diagnostics and repair.
  • Knowledge of suspension systems, kingpins, airbags, steering components, and general HD mechanical systems.
  • Education & Reporting:
  • Willingness to participate in continued education (provided and paid for).
  • Communicate diagnostic findings and repair needs to leadership in clear, non-technical terms.
  • Fleet Management:
  • Source parts efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Maintain all vehicle records in compliance with FMCSA standards and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support seasonal maintenance programs (e.g., weather prep, prom/wedding season readiness).
  • Assist with loading/unloading buses and equipment for transport as needed.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend travel for job site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Rotating on-site assignments for preventive maintenance at active job sites across the U.S.
  • When not traveling, work will take place in-shop at our Des Moines headquarters.
