Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, rescue, and hazardous materials operations; participates in fire prevention programs and educating the public on fire prevention and safety; and performs other technical operations and activities in support of the Needville Fire Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Respond to emergency calls related to fire suppression and emergency medical services and operations; provide appropriate services as required; prepare reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned and follow orders under stressful conditions.
  • Maintain a state of readiness for immediate emergency response; operate, inspect, repair, and perform other technical tasks related to the apparatus and equipment in the Needville Fire Department.
  • Perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; first aid and life support as necessary; operate numerous types of rescues, emergency, and fire suppression equipment as necessary;
  • Perform emergency medical duties as designated by state health and regulatory agencies for an Emergency Medical Responder/Emergency Medical Technician; stabilize acutely ill or injured persons, complete patient reports and other medical related documentation as required.
  • Participate in cleaning and maintaining station facilities, living quarters, grounds, equipment, and apparatus; ensure that appropriate conditions are maintained at the Needville FD station assigned.
  • Performs assigned duties within scope of authority and training, and according to Needville FD policies and procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment and skill level.
  • Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Participates in classes, drills, and training to maintain and upgrade current physical fitness, firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical skills, maintain department records and work logs.
  • Continuously updates knowledge of Needville FD geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, building locations, and special hazards of designated facilities.
  • Perform public relations on behalf of the Needville FD including demonstration of fire equipment and apparatus, and participation in other educational programs for various groups and general public; may conduct tours of the station; participate in Needville FD special activities as assigned; may be required to instruct public fire prevention and fire safety; and
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned,
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Experience License / Certifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Possession of a valid appropriate Texas Class B Exempt Driver's License.
  • Possession of Firefighter II certification from the State Firefighters’ amp; Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas or Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Structure Firefighter certification.
  • Possession of a current Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Responder certification or Emergency Medical Technician certification.
Recommended Certifications:
  • NIMS- 100, 200, 700 and 800

  • Traffic Incident Management Program
Physical Conditions:
  • Essential and other important duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for adequate physical performance abilities including moderate and heavy lifting.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing.
  • Ability to run, walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles.
  • Adequate speech, hearing and eyesight required.
  • Carry, push, pull, drag, or hold moderate to heavy weight objects.
  • Strenuous and/ or heavy exertion factors are required to perform this job; and
Candidates will be required to pass a physical ability test and in-person interview. Applicants must be able to pass post-offer drug test, criminal background, and other appropriate testing. Applications must include copies of all required certifications.
