What is a search engine?

Search engines are online tools that help users find information on the internet by indexing and organizing web content. When a user enters a query, the search engine scans its database and returns relevant results, such as websites, images, videos, or news articles. Popular search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo use complex algorithms to rank and display the most useful information. They play a crucial role in navigating the vast amount of data available online, making it easier for people to access what they need quickly and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a search engine specialist?

To thrive as a Search Engine Specialist, you need expertise in search engine optimization (SEO), keyword research, and web analytics, often supported by a background in marketing or computer science. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Moz, and Google Search Console, as well as certifications such as Google Ads or HubSpot SEO, is highly beneficial. Strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and effective communication help you interpret data trends and collaborate with content and technical teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving website visibility, increasing organic traffic, and achieving business goals in a competitive digital landscape.

What are some common challenges faced by search engine marketing specialists when optimizing campaigns?

Search engine marketing specialists often encounter challenges such as staying updated with frequent changes to search engine algorithms, managing campaign budgets effectively, and ensuring ad relevance for target audiences. Balancing keyword bids, improving quality scores, and analyzing large volumes of performance data can also be demanding. Successful specialists regularly collaborate with content teams, use analytics tools to refine strategies, and must adapt quickly to evolving best practices to achieve optimal results.

Job description

About Aristotle and PredictIt

Aristotle is a leading provider of data, technology, identity, and compliance solutions serving organizations across the political, government, commercial, and nonprofit sectors. PredictIt, an Aristotle company, is an innovative real-money prediction market that allows users to trade contracts on the outcomes of political and current events. With a passionate and highly engaged community, PredictIt sits at a unique intersection of politics, data, and market dynamics.

We are seeking a versatile, analytical SEO & Digital Marketing Specialist to support both Aristotle and PredictIt. This individual will own organic search, AI and LLM visibility, digital analytics, and paid media execution across the companies' web properties and marketing channels.

The person in this role will develop and manage campaigns for two distinct audiences: consumer acquisition and engagement for PredictIt, and B2B lead generation and brand visibility for Aristotle. They will be responsible for conducting comprehensive SEO audits, diagnosing and fixing technical SEO issues, building and optimizing paid campaigns across search, social, programmatic, and connected TV, and turning performance data into clear recommendations for marketing, content, development, product, and leadership teams.

The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between channels and business needs, running a technical site audit one day, rebuilding a paid campaign's audience strategy the next, and then analyzing attribution and conversion performance in GA4. This is a hands-on role for someone who can develop strategy, execute the work, and pull and interpret their own performance data rather than waiting on someone else's report.

Key Responsibilities

SEO, AI Search & Website Optimization

  • Conduct comprehensive technical, on-page, content, and competitive SEO audits across Aristotle and PredictIt web properties, then develop prioritized roadmaps for improvement.
  • Analyze crawlability, indexation, site health, and technical performance, surfacing issues and opportunities involving redirects, canonicals, robots.txt, sitemaps, structured data, Core Web Vitals, internal linking, and site architecture.
  • Conduct keyword research and organize findings into prioritized recommendations aligned with PredictIt's consumer audience and Aristotle's B2B products, industries, and buyers.
  • Complete competitive keyword and content-gap analyses and identify opportunities to improve rankings, traffic, authority, and conversion performance.
  • Perform content inventories and audits to identify gaps, duplication, outdated material, and structural improvements.
  • Lead on-page SEO across titles, meta descriptions, headings, schema, internal linking, and content optimization.
  • Develop and manage a strategy for visibility in AI-powered search and large language models, including monitoring how Aristotle, PredictIt, their products, and relevant topics appear in AI-generated results.
  • Recommend content and technical improvements that strengthen both traditional search performance and visibility across emerging answer engines and AI search platforms.
  • Collaborate with marketing, content, product, and development teams to implement recommendations and validate results.

Paid Digital Advertising

  • Plan, build, launch, and optimize paid campaigns across Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, programmatic advertising platforms, connected TV, display, video, and retargeting channels.
  • Develop channel and audience strategies appropriate to each business, including consumer acquisition and re-engagement for PredictIt and B2B awareness and lead generation for Aristotle.
  • Manage campaign budgets, pacing, bidding, targeting, and media allocation against defined acquisition, engagement, lead-generation, and return-on-investment goals.
  • Develop and test ad creative, copy, landing pages, audience segments, placements, offers, and messaging through structured A/B and multivariate testing.
  • Track and improve KPIs including reach, traffic, engagement, conversions, qualified leads, account registrations, customer acquisition cost, cost per lead, return on ad spend, and other business-specific outcomes.
  • Evaluate new advertising channels and partners and make clear recommendations about where Aristotle and PredictIt should invest, test, reduce spending, or scale.
  • Monitor and manage campaign compliance with platform policies, privacy requirements, legal and regulatory guidance, and ad-review requirements, particularly for restricted or regulated categories.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and outside vendors while maintaining direct visibility into campaign setup, performance, and spend.

Analytics, Tracking & Reporting

  • Own the day-to-day administration and use of Google Analytics 4 across Aristotle and PredictIt web properties.
  • Establish and maintain reliable measurement frameworks for traffic, engagement, lead generation, registrations, conversions, campaign performance, and other priority user actions.
  • Use Google Tag Manager to implement, document, test, and troubleshoot events, conversion tracking, pixels, and marketing tags.
  • Maintain consistent UTM conventions, campaign taxonomy, naming standards, dashboards, and reporting templates across channels and business units.
  • Validate tracking consistency and data flow among websites, GA4, advertising platforms, CRM or lead systems, and reporting tools.
  • Pull, QA, analyze, and interpret data from GA4, Google Search Console, BrightEdge, paid media platforms, and other relevant sources.
  • Build recurring dashboards and reports that clearly explain performance, trends, attribution limitations, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Translate data into practical recommendations for content, campaigns, product experiences, landing pages, and development priorities.
  • Present findings and recommendations to organizational leadership and other non-technical stakeholders.

Marketing Team Support

  • Create, edit, and coordinate marketing copy, graphics, video, landing pages, and other digital assets as needed.
  • Maintain the distinct brand messaging, visual identity, and tone of Aristotle and PredictIt across digital platforms.
  • Identify emerging developments in search, AI discovery, advertising technology, measurement, privacy, and audience behavior.
  • Document recurring workflows and continuously improve tracking standards, naming conventions, campaign processes, and reporting.
  • Perform other marketing and communications duties as assigned.

Salary range: $95k-$125k per year

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience across SEO, digital analytics, and paid digital marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, analytics, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated technical SEO capability, including investigating crawlability, indexing, and site-health issues on medium to large websites involving canonicals, redirects, robots.txt, sitemaps, structured data, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Experience conducting comprehensive SEO audits and converting findings into prioritized, actionable plans.
  • Strong working knowledge of SEO auditing, research, and analytics tools such as Google Search Console, BrightEdge, Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience directly building and managing paid search, paid social, programmatic, display, video, or CTV campaigns with meaningful budget responsibility.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, and at least several additional platforms such as TikTok Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, X Ads Manager, a programmatic demand-side platform, or a CTV partner.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Analytics 4, including events, conversions, audiences, acquisition reporting, and attribution concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Google Tag Manager, marketing pixels, event tracking, and data-quality validation.
  • Ability to analyze performance across channels and translate data into budget, targeting, content, and campaign recommendations.
  • Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, brands, deadlines, budgets, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, curiosity, and personal accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience marketing both B2C and B2B products or services.
  • Experience with AI search, LLM visibility, generative engine optimization, answer-engine optimization, or emerging AI-search measurement tools.
  • Experience with HTML and the ability to review or make basic website and tracking updates.
  • Knowledge of A/B testing, audience segmentation, landing-page optimization, and conversion-rate optimization.
  • Experience validating tracking consistency and data flow across platforms and supporting data-quality reviews in GA4, Google Tag Manager, advertising platforms, and related tools.
  • Familiarity with CRM, marketing-automation, dashboard, or business-intelligence platforms.

  • Experience managing agencies, media partners, freelancers, or other external vendors.
  • Experience working in politics, financial services, gaming, prediction markets, identity technology, compliance, or another regulated or policy-sensitive industry.
  • Understanding of accessibility, privacy, consent management, and advertising-compliance standards.
