Job description

Certified Surgical Technician

Assists with basic nursing care and preparation of surgical patients of all ages under the direct supervision of the staff nurse assigned. Assists in identifying patient needs based on age specific data. Selects appropriate instruments and supplies and sets up tables as required for specific operations. Prepares and maintains the sterile field for all surgical procedures. Prepares and passes instruments, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count. Functions as a member of the sterile team. Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Generally Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm

Call hours required

Performance Standards:

  • Provides team support services and demonstrates technical functions in a cost-effective, skillful manner that results in team, physician and patient satisfaction.
  • Completes and maintains all yearly competency monitors and mandatory training within defined time frame (i.e., safety, annual in-services, corporate compliance, confidentiality, HIPAA).
  • Consistently attends unit meetings.
  • Demonstrates an ability to remain calm and productive in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Compliant with patient confidentiality standards.
  • Successful completion of Nursing Services and in-service requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or equivalent education/experience
  • Ability to successfully complete Basic Life Support Certification
  • Consistently works as a team member and communicates effectively
