Job Summary/Description:  

WVLT is looking for a talented News Producer to join our award-winning team. This position will work closely with the Executive Producer and News Director, in addition to having direct communication with Technical Media Producers, the Digital Content Team, Assignment Manager, Reporters, and other news staff. In this position, you will be responsible for the content and flow of newscasts, digital content, and the overall quality of our news product. You will lead the charge in the development of our newscasts and digital content to meet a high standard.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Strong skills in managing breaking news and severe weather coverage and able to make sound split-second decisions during live broadcasts.
- Strong skills in posting to the web, working with social media, and gathering user-generated content.
- Knowledgeable in how to execute a strategic plan from the producer chair, consistently implement strategies within the content on a daily basis, and motivate those on their shift to execute the vision.
- Strong writing skills and a proven track record for getting results on initiatives
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to identify problems and provide solutions
- A strong commitment to journalistic standards and ethics
- Extraordinary people skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating

Qualifications/Requirements:

- BS/BA in Journalism/Communications or equivalent background
- Flexible work hours required; must be willing and able to work a variety of shifts, including but not limited to mornings, afternoons, evenings, late nights, holidays, weekends, and possible overtime hours.
- Must possess excellent writing and graphic skills with the ability to provide an interesting and substantive product.
- Must be results-oriented
- Ability to focus on the coordination of daily and long-range segments from the first contact to on-air products
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a creative and fast-paced environment
- Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
