How do script writers typically collaborate with directors and producers during a project?

Script writers often work closely with directors and producers throughout the development and production process. After submitting a draft, writers may participate in meetings to discuss revisions based on creative direction, budget, or logistical constraints. Open communication and flexibility are essential, as scripts frequently evolve to align with the director's vision and production needs. This collaboration ensures the final script serves the story while being feasible to produce, offering writers valuable insights and professional growth.

How much do script writers get paid?

Script writers' salaries vary based on experience, industry, and project type. Entry-level writers may earn around $30,000 to $50,000 annually, while experienced professionals can make $100,000 or more, especially in television and film. Freelance script writers often negotiate per-project rates or royalties.

What is script writing?

Script writing is the process of creating written works that outline the dialogue, actions, and directions for productions such as films, television shows, plays, or video content. Script writing is crucial for guiding actors and production teams in bringing a story to life.

How much do you get paid for writing a script?

Script writers' pay varies based on experience, project type, and industry. Freelance script writers typically earn between $30 and $150 per hour, while those working on television or film projects may be paid per project or receive a salary, often ranging from $50,000 to over $100,000 annually for experienced professionals.

As one of the largest private nursing colleges in the country, we combine the support of a close-knit learning environment with the strength of a nationally recognized institution, HCA Healthcare.

That same passion for excellence in the classroom extends to our offices. At Galen, you’ll find a culture deeply rooted in collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving the future of healthcare. Your work directly touches the next generation of nurses, and your contributions help our students pursue their dream of a compassionate career.

If you’re looking for a career where you can make a difference, grow professionally, and be part of a caring team, we’d love for you to apply for the Copywriter position today!

Position Overview:

As a Copywriter at Galen College of Nursing, you will drive enrollment growth by producing high-quality, on-brand copy across every stage of the prospective student journey — content that builds Galen's authority as a nursing education leader, moves prospects toward application, and gives campus teams the materials they need to recruit effectively in their local markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Produce long-form content — articles, guides, and editorial pieces — that positions Galen as an authoritative resource for prospective nursing students across every stage of their decision journey.
  2. Write supporting short-form articles and web copy targeting specific search queries, ensuring content is structured for both traditional SEO and AI-generated answer environments.
  3. Adapt content across formats including social media posts, video scripts (short- and long-form), digital ad copy, SMS, email, pull quotes, and print materials.
  4. Write video scripts for brand, recruitment, student story, campus spotlight, and explainer content optimized for each format and platform.
  5. Write full-funnel email nurture sequences that guide prospects from initial inquiry through application and enrollment, including welcome series, lead nurture tracks, re-engagement campaigns, and enrollment milestone touchpoints.
  6. Craft triggered and promotional email copy — inquiry follow-up, event confirmations, deadline reminders, open house announcements — that moves prospects forward with timely, relevant messaging.
  7. Serve as the primary copywriting resource for Galen's in-house creative services team, supporting campus marketing needs across Galen's campuses nationwide.
  8. Write copy for campus-level materials including flyers, brochures, signage, viewbooks, event programs, and recruitment collateral — adapting national messaging for local audiences.
  9. Serve as a steward of Galen's brand voice, ensuring all copy across channels, campuses, and formats reflects a consistent tone: warm, credible, student-centered, and grounded in real outcomes.
  10. Write with a commitment to ownable, non-commodity content — bringing in Galen-specific data, real student and faculty voices, and locally relevant context that competitors cannot replicate.
  11. Collaborate with the Creative Director, Content Marketing Strategist, Graphic Designers, Web Manager, and Enrollment team to ensure copy integrates with broader campaign and strategy goals.
  12. Manage a high volume of concurrent projects across content types, campuses, and channels — meeting deadlines, flagging capacity issues proactively, and maintaining quality under volume.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of professional copywriting experience in a content marketing, creative agency, or high-volume in-house environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write across formats: long-form editorial content, email nurture copy, video scripts, social media, advertising, and print/collateral.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing range, including long-form content, short-form derivatives, and email or campaign copy.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or mission-driven institutional marketing (preferred).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for brand voice and factual accuracy.
  • Working fluency with AI writing tools — including the judgment to brief them effectively, use them selectively, and edit their output critically.
  • Ability to manage high-volume, concurrent projects across multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and structuring content for search and AI-generated answer environments (preferred).
  • Exposure to CRM-integrated email platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, or Slate (preferred).
  • Video script writing experience, including short-form social video and longer brand or explainer formats (preferred).
