Search & Comparison IntentLooking for general script writing rolesFocused on professional screenwriting careers

While both roles involve writing scripts, a Script Writer often creates content for various media, including commercials, videos, or online content, with less emphasis on film or TV. A Screenwriter specializes in crafting scripts specifically for movies and television, often requiring formal training and industry experience. Understanding these differences helps job seekers target the right roles in the entertainment industry.

How does a script writer typically collaborate with directors and producers during the development process?

Script writers often work closely with directors and producers to refine the narrative, dialogue, and pacing of a script. This collaboration usually involves participating in meetings, receiving feedback, and making revisions to ensure the script aligns with the overall vision and practical constraints of the production. Open communication and adaptability are key, as script writers may need to adjust scenes or characters based on director input, budget considerations, or casting changes. This teamwork helps create a cohesive story that is both engaging and feasible for production.

Is it called cursive or script?

In the context of script writing, the term 'script' refers to a style of handwriting or font that mimics cursive writing, often used in calligraphy or design. 'Cursive' describes a flowing, connected style of handwriting, while 'script' can refer to both handwritten and digital fonts that imitate cursive. For script writers, understanding different styles and tools like pen types or digital software is important for producing the desired aesthetic.

Is it a doctor's scrip or script?

A script writer is a professional who creates scripts for movies, TV shows, or other media, and the term 'script' refers to the written dialogue and instructions. It is not related to a doctor's prescription, which is a medical order for medication or treatment. The job involves writing, storytelling, and often collaboration with producers or directors.

What Is a Script Writer?

A script writer writes a script for a movie, television show, commercial, play, or broadcast. Specific job duties vary depending upon the project, but often involve developing the story idea, creating an outline, generating dialogue, separating the script into acts, and working on character development. Some writers adapt a previous work into a new medium, like a book into a film. Other writers create a script from scratch.

What is a script in slang?

In slang, a script can refer to a pre-written plan or set of lines used by actors, performers, or content creators to guide their performance. For script writers, understanding slang terms like this helps in creating authentic dialogue and character voices for various media projects.

What is the meaning of script?

In the context of a script writer, a script is a written document that outlines the dialogue, actions, and scene descriptions for a film, television show, play, or other performance. It serves as a blueprint for production and helps guide actors, directors, and crew during filming or staging. Strong writing skills and understanding of storytelling are essential for creating effective scripts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Writer, you need strong storytelling abilities, excellent command of language, and a solid understanding of narrative structure, often supported by a degree in writing, film, or related fields. Familiarity with industry-standard screenwriting software like Final Draft or Celtx is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and effective communication are vital soft skills that help writers collaborate with directors and producers. These skills ensure scripts are engaging, professionally formatted, and tailored to specific audiences and production needs.

Contract Creative Copywriter

PopSockets

Boulder, CO

Contractor

Posted 5 days ago

Job description

Launched in 2014 by former philosophy professor David Barnett, PopSockets is a global digital-lifestyle company that sells empowering, fun, and expressive products that improve people’s digital lives. PopSockets has sold close to 300 million of its iconic phone grips in 75 countries and now has an expanding ecosystem of related products, including phone cases, wallets, mounts, batteries, and chargers.

Our mission is to empower enhanced mobile functionality, self-expression, and authentic human connection. We imagine an Eternal Positivity Machine that sparks joy, creativity, and meaningful relationships. We bring this vision to life by upholding the highest standards in materials, packaging, logistics, and design—while ensuring our supply chain and labor practices remain ethical, responsible, and transparent.

In 2021, PopSockets was honored as one of Fast Company’s World's Most Innovative Companies.

PopSockets isn't just a grip. It's a personality. And we need a writer who gets that—someone who can turn a product benefit into a punchline, a campaign into a moment, and a piece of packaging into something worth reading twice.

As our Creative Copywriter, you'll be the voice behind virtually every touchpoint—digital, physical, and everywhere in between. You'll work across email, social, paid media, product packaging, retail environments, video scripts, and more, crafting copy that is clever, clear, and unmistakably PopSockets. This is a mid-level role for a writer with 3–5 years of brand or agency experience who is ready to take real ownership and grow into a key creative voice for the brand.

You'll be embedded within the Brand Creative team, collaborating closely with designers, marketers, and product leaders to ensure every message lands with the same energy, wit, and warmth that defines who we are.

This is a contract role with strong potential to convert to a full-time position based on performance and business needs.

What You'll Own
Campaign & Digital Copy
  • Campaign copy across digital channels—email, paid social, display, and website content
  • Product detail page (PDP) copy for PopSockets.com and wholesale partner platforms, written with SEO best practices in mind
  • Paid ad copy for performance campaigns, balancing brand voice with conversion intent
Video & Motion Scripts
  • Scripts for short-form social video (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts), online video advertising (OLV), and brand films
  • Voiceover scripts, supers, and on-screen text for motion and animated content
  • Creative frameworks and talking-point briefs for influencer and creator partnerships
Physical & Retail Copy
  • Packaging copy that communicates product benefits and brand personality with clarity and charm
  • Retail point-of-purchase fixtures, in-store signage, tradeshow collateral, and printed brand materials
  • Wholesale and retail partner toolkits—sell-in copy, co-branded asset copy, and brand guidance materials for major retail accounts
UX & E-Commerce Copy
  • Website micro-copy—CTAs, navigation labels, onboarding flows, checkout messaging, error states, and confirmation copy for PopSockets.com
  • Transactional and lifecycle email copy (order confirmations, shipping updates, loyalty communications) that keeps the brand voice consistent even in functional contexts
Brand Voice, Social Partnership & Product Naming
  • Developing and stewarding the brand voice system that works across all channels—defining the tone, language principles, and messaging frameworks that give every team a consistent creative foundation to build from
  • Partnering with the Social team to bring the voice to life at the post and community level—providing copy direction, reviewing key moments, and helping social move quickly without drifting from brand
  • Writing and evolving tone-of-voice documentation, channel voice guides, and copy examples that make it easy for any team or partner to sound like PopSockets
  • Product naming that balances creativity, strategy, and brand voice—developed collaboratively with brand, product, and legal teams through an established naming process
  • Upholding brand standards across all copy outputs; flagging inconsistencies and helping evolve the voice as the brand grows
What You Bring
  • 3–5 years of copywriting experience at a brand, agency, or in-house creative team—consumer products or e-commerce background strongly preferred
  • A portfolio that demonstrates range: campaign concepts, product copy, social, and at least some script or video work. We want to see how your brain works, not just how you write
  • A strong grasp of brand voice with the ability to flex tone across formats, channels, and audiences without losing the thread
  • Comfort with SEO fundamentals—you know how to write for humans first while giving search engines what they need
  • Solid writing fundamentals across long and short form—grammar, clarity, rhythm, and an instinct for what makes a line land
  • Script-writing experience or genuine enthusiasm for it—social video is a major part of this role
  • Curiosity and creative range: you explore multiple directions before landing on the right one, and you welcome the brief as a creative challenge
  • Familiarity with AI writing tools as part of your creative workflow—not as a replacement for craft, but as a productive collaborator
  • A collaborative spirit and openness to feedback; you thrive in an iterative, cross-functional environment with shifting priorities
What Success Looks Like

In your first 90 days:

  • You've shipped copy across at least three different channels and formats, and cross-functional partners are reaching out to you directly
  • You understand the PopSockets voice well enough to make confident copy decisions without seeking approval on every word
  • You've flagged at least one inconsistency in existing brand copy and proposed a solution

Ongoing:

  • Your copy is consistently fun, on-brand, and strategically aligned—not just clever for clever's sake
  • Campaign copy and video scripts you've written contribute to measurable business outcomes and memorable brand moments
  • You're a trusted creative partner across brand, product, and marketing—the first person teams think of when they need words that work
  • You help strengthen and evolve the PopSockets voice over time through thoughtful creative contribution
  • You're growing your craft, taking on increasing ownership, and building toward becoming a senior creative voice at the company
